Orientation Activities and Healthy Living

After registration, a series of activities have been designed to help S.1 students to adapt to our school quickly and develop a sense of belongings. This includes the New S.1 Student Induction Week, orientation activities, a Bridging course to be held from mid-July to August, and a New S.1 Student Guidance Week in late-August. Students are integrated into our big family through pluralistic discipline-training, outdoor learning, team-building and cultural-learning activities as well as foundation courses in languages and Mathematics.
Students’ healthy lifestyle is our priority. We constantly organize talks on health issues with some medical organizations so that students have the chance to promote healthy lifestyle to the public.

School Facilities (for Supporting Students with Special Educational Needs)

Our school is located in Fairview Park Yuen Long. It is quiet and spacious with fresh air. To align with the NSS curriculum, apart from normal classrooms and special rooms, we also have an English Learning Centre, a Liberal Studies Learning Centre, a Computer-aided Design Centre and a Campus TV Station. Athletic tracks have been built and a solar power generation system supported by an "Solar Harvest" Scheme has been implemented so as to promote the concept of sustainable development in the school campus. In all, we are well-equipped with facilities and can support various learning activities for students to learn and grow happily. Every classroom is air conditioned, with a computer and a projector and is covered by a wired and wireless network. Teachers and students can teach and learn with I.T. equipment to enhance learning efficiency. The whole school is connected by an optical fiber and wifi network so as to enhance the implementation of e-learning.

The school uses screen readers and speech-to-text software.

Whole-school Language Policy:
Our school places emphasis on bi-literacy and tri-lingualism. We improve our students' listening and speaking skills in Chinese and English through the Multi-media Learning Centre and our NET teacher. We have also created an English-rich learning environment for our students through holding English Week, English Morning Assemblies, and organising English activities in English Corner.

Learning and Teaching Strategies:
The school renovates and updates classroom facilities regularly to provide students with a better learning environment. By 2022-2023, We will have a "Fitness Centre" a "Mini performance stage" and Multi-purpose meeting room to facilitate students' learning. The subject curriculum is up to date and is consistent with the education reform. The teaching mode is student-oriented. Apart from the academic perspective, we also provide various kinds of activities to widen students’ horizons. Our school can utilize resources to cater for students' learning diversity. Individual and group counselling will be provided for students in a bid to nurture their social, emotional and psychological well-being.
2. Learning from Work Experience: Students will be given opportunities to visit different industries and receive vocational training. For instance, some students will be selected to join the 'Job Tasting Programme' which enables them to acquire more hands-on working experience.

Whole School Approach to Catering for Learner Diversity:
Our school adopts different approaches to cater for learners' diversity, which include split classes, a school-based curriculum, small-sized remedial groups, an Individual Education Plan, a peer support scheme, Enhanced Smart Teen Project and peer study groups. To foster an inclusive school culture, we have implemented a ‘Big Brothers and Sisters’ Scheme, a Fellowship, Student Ambassadors, the Love and Dream Project, an Organic Farming Team, a Smart Boys Club and Prefects to let all students feel they are valued and treated equally.

Whole School Approach to Integrated Education:
Our school is committed to developing an inclusive school culture and adopting a ‘Whole School Approach’ to implement student support policies to let all students feel they are valued and treated equally. Our school has established a ‘Student Support Team’. The team hold meetings periodically to provide students with special education needs with appropriate plans and programmes, including the Peer Reading Scheme, speech therapy service, Individual Education Plan, after-school tutorial classes, the ‘Screen Reader Software’ Scheme, the ‘Speech to Text Software’ Scheme, the Talk face-to-face Caring Scheme, the ‘Meet a While’ Scheme, lunchtime gathering activities, S.1 School-based Inclusive Education and the ‘Elite Volunteers’ Volunteer Service Programme; and to have a teaching assistant to support students with special needs. We also made special arrangements for tests and examinations, such as extending exam time, enlarging exam papers, employing screen reader software and speech to text software, etc.; and provide assistance for students to apply for special exam arrangement in public exam. The Student Support Team work closely with the school Educational Psychologist and the school social worker to detect students with special needs at an early stage and transfer them to have assessments on their needs and provide them with timely support.

Measures to provide adaptation for Learning and Assessment:
Our school pays great attention to continuous and diversified assessments so as to understand students' learning and improve teaching and learning. Home-School Co-operation and School Ethos

Home-School Co-operation:
We value communication with parents. At the beginning of the school term, we send a ‘Letter to Parents’ through class teachers to invite parents to write their comments on their child and the support which they expect from us. Class teachers contact parents in September and make notes of their exchanges in the ‘Sunshine Call’ parent contact form so as to gain a better understanding of students' attributes. We have a New Student Parents’ Talk after S.1 registration to let parents know the school’s facilities and the school mission. In the first month of the school year, we hold a S.1-S.6 Parents’ Day to let parents learn about students’ school life and the learning environment. Parents can also learn more about the school via the eClass App, that sends out school announcements, e-notices, the school calendar, the student attendance record, etc. which will enhance communication effectiveness. In addition, we work closely with the PTA to promote parent-child education and enhance home-school co-operation to get more support for sustainable development. For families of ethnic minorities and cross-border students, our foreign teachers, class teachers and social workers keep in close contact with the parents, in order to support our students learning needs and healthy growth.
