Orientation Activities and Healthy Living

Healthy personal growth among students is our main concern. We actively inculcate students with healthy life and positive values. S.1 to S.3 students stay in school for lunch. When choosing a caterer, we ensure that a provider of a balanced diet tops our list. The items sold in the tuck shop are regularly monitored to ensure proper hygiene and good health.
In order to promote sports and instill health-conscious messages, our school participates in the "Physical Fitness Award Scheme".
In order to make it easier for S.1 students to adapt to the campus life, language bridging classes, Parents' Day, team-building training sessions, peer-mentoring programme, multiple-intelligence training programme, and workshops for parents are held every year. Learning and Teaching Plan

Whole-school Language Policy:
From 1997, the school has adopted Chinese as the Medium of Instruction. Students’ academic results have been improved continuously. In order to help students better prepare for the Senior Secondary Curriculum and to increase students’ English language proficiency, a language policy has been developed and implemented through the Extended English Learning Activities immersed in junior forms.

Learning and Teaching Strategies:
The school emphasizes the importance of teaching students to learn effectively and think critically. Project learning is applied to help students prepare for the Senior Secondary Curriculum. Reading to Learn is promoted through various school-based reading activities. Our school highlights the importance of students’ reading habits, thus there are Reading Lessons on each Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday encouraging students to read a variety of texts on different topics. Students read Chinese and English newspapers and articles related to Citizen and Social Development with the guidance of teachers. Online reading programmes, both Chinese and English, are adopted to help students build their reading habits.

School-based curriculum:
1. Electives: 2X and 3X. 11 elective subjects are provided. S4 and S.5 students study 3 elective subjects out of 11. S.6 students study 2 elective subjects out of 11, including Applied Learning Subjects and Mathematics Extended Part Modules 1 or 2 as available options.
2. Curriculum highlights: From 2003, all Key Learning Areas (Chinese Language, English Language, Mathematics, Science, PSHE, Technology, Arts and Physical Education) have developed the school-based curricula to fit the needs of the education reforms and curriculum development. The school improved its school-based curriculum to cater for the requirements of Senior Secondary Curriculum.

Development of the Four Key Tasks:
1. Reading across Curriculum: To foster self-directed learning, students are encouraged to join various reading activities. Weekly reading lessons are arranged for students to read Chinese and English newspapers and other reading materials to develop their reading habits. The 'Extensive Reading Award Scheme' is held every year and several assemblies are related to the introduction of new books and reading skills. Guest authors are invited to share their reading and writing experiences. Moreover, cross-curricular reading on topics such as STEAM, Life Education, National Education and English articles across various subjects is promoted, with the aim of enhancing students' life-wide learning.
2. Value Education: The school motto of ‘Integrity and Dedication’ sets the goal of value education for students. The school educates students' positive values and attitudes through providing a holistic curriculum and other learning experiences such as Mainland study tours, visits, community services and project learning etc. These diversified activities aim at nurturing in our students the ten priority values and attitudes: 'Perseverance', 'Respect for Others', 'Responsibility', 'National Identity', 'Commitment', 'Integrity', 'Care for Others', 'Law-abidingness', 'Empathy' and 'Diligence'.
3. Project Learning: In order to develop students' generic skills and self-directed learning abilities, group project learning is integrated into the curricula of PSHE KLA(S1), Science KLA (S2) and Technology KLA (S3). Also, Cross-curricular Activity Day is held every year to help S1 to S5 students integrate and apply knowledge and skills across various disciplines through diversified activities.
4. IT in teaching: Our school deploys a full coverage of network ports and wireless network in all classrooms to enhance teaching efficiency. Students are encouraged to join different learning activities in Multi-media Learning Centre, computer rooms and Campus TV station. Interactive whiteboards are installed in all classrooms and special rooms.

Life Planning Education:
Our school implements life planning education under the whole-school approach. For junior form students, their class teachers deliver life planning lessons to equip them with the knowledge, skills and attitudes to formulate career plans in accordance with their personal interests, abilities and orientation.
Whole-person development is integrated into our senior form curriculum to help students understand contemporary issues that may impact their daily life at all levels and gain a wider perspective of the world so that they can get prepared for life in the future. This is achieved through a variety of workshops, seminars and activities, such as career and life planning seminars, career exploration activities, experiential activities on multiple pathways, personality dimensions workshops, university visits, mock release of DSE results, and interview workshops.

Whole School Approach to Catering for Learner Diversity:
Teachers set different goals and adopt various teaching ways according to individual students' needs. If needed, parents are invited to attend meetings about Individual Education Plans and to discuss student progress. Social workers and an educational psychologist offer counselling service related to students' emotions and social life.

Whole School Approach to Integrated Education:
Flexible allocation of resources is made under close supervision and coordination to support students with special education needs and less-able learners for learning effectiveness and integration into school life.
SENCO facilitates students with SEN to cope with difficulties in school life with the assistance from 2 Inclusive Education Assistants while other members in Inclusive Education Team help students with SEN to deal with their academic issues and train their social skills with timely counselling and follow-ups.
Curriculum is adapted based on students’ abilities and needs. Special arrangements in examinations include extra time allowance, special grouping in oral examinations, enlarged exam papers, special seating arrangement, using screen readers and speech-to-text software, etc.

Home-School Co-operation and School Ethos

Home-School Co-operation:
In order to strengthen the relationship between the school and parents, the PTA organizes a wide variety of activities including PTA outing, talks, interest classes and activities on school sports day involving parents, teachers and students. Other activities supported by PTA include voluntary services with parents acting as voluntary assistants in the school library and as helpers for school ceremony. In addition, PTA also sponsors prizes for students with outstanding performance in Parent-Student Reading Scheme, Most Improved Student Awards and external competitions.

School Ethos:
With a whole-school approach to guidance and discipline, the teachers are professional and caring enough to work closely together for the sake of the whole-person development of students. Various strategies and programmes are adopted to cater for different developmental needs. With good communication and cooperation with parents, the school's social workers and the school's psychologist, the school successfully cultivates the atmosphere of love, care and respect. It has been awarded the Caring School in the Caring School Award Scheme by Hong Kong Christian Service for thirteen times.

Future Development

School Development Plan:
1. To improve the lesson designs with the focus of self-directed learning, to train students' learning habits in class and to encourage reading across the curriculum.
2. To provide training for teachers about training students' learning habits and strengthening students' self-management skills to enhance teachers' efficacy.
3. To create a culture of peer lesson observations and to encourage professional dialogues as well as pedagogical knowledge sharing related to self-directed learning among teachers.

Teacher Professional Training and Development:
In order to keep up with various school development policies on effective teaching and school planning and to update the competence and professionalism of our teachers, series of strategies have been implemented by the Staff Development Committee.
To enhance teaching effectiveness, updated teaching strategies and experience obtained from seminars and workshops are shared in our Teacher Sharing Days; Common Lesson Periods and Lesson Studies are regularly run for the preparation for teaching materials and the sharing of teaching pedagogies. Peer observation within the department and cross-departments encourages professional development. Lesson observation by parents is introduced to enhance the understanding of students’ learning at school.
The Chief Executive’s Award of Teaching Excellence in the subjects of English Language and Mathematics has also sparked our teachers with full determination in effective quality-teaching.

Life-wide Learning (including Five Essential Learning Experiences to be provided through Key Learning Areas, extra-curricular activities, co-curricular activities, etc.):
The school puts strong emphasis on giving students the training and development through moral, intellectual, physical, social, aesthetic and spiritual education. There are more than 30 interest and uniform groups. Among them, the Chinese drama group, Chinese dance group, English musical, campus TV team, STEM group and musical instrument class are very popular. Students show different potentials in acquiring knowledge, skills and values. In addition, our school has a number of uniform teams such as the Scouts and Venture Scouts, Girl Guides, The Boy Brigade, St. John Ambulance Cadets, Road Safety Patrol and Hong Kong Air Cadets Corps to build up students’ self-discipline and self-confidence. In addition, the school’s sports team and Campus Art Ambassadors have won numerous awards in different competitions, demonstrating the excellent results of the "One Person, One Art" project. 1. Scholarship: There are various types of scholarships for outstanding students with excellent performance in academics, conduct and sport.
2. Open and inter-school awards: Our school teams participated in different open and inter-school competitions with outstanding achievements. Both of our English Musical Team and Mandarin Drama Team won Award for Commendable Overall Performance, Award for Directing, Award for Outstanding Script, Award for Outstanding Audio-visual Effects and Award for Outstanding Cooperation, and a total of 18 students were honoured the Award for Outstanding Performers. The Scouts and Venture Scouts once again won the "Excellent Brigade" awarded by Scout Association of Hong Kong the New Territories Region. Our Campus TV crew members won the championship in the secondary school category in the 2021 Crime-fighting Microfilm Competition.
3. Exchange programmes: a. To recommend and arrange individual students to join study tours and exchange programs like EF Exchange Students Project and Mainland China study tours held or sponsored by the Education Bureau. b. To organise school-based overseas and Mainland China study tours when it is safe to travel. All these programmes aim at broadening the students’ horizons, helping them to experience the culture of different countries and improving their communication skills in English and Putonghua.
4. Leadership training: Various activities and training sessions are organized every year to develop leadership and interpersonal skills among students. A leadership training camp is held for all Secondary 4 students to strengthen their team spirit.
5. National Education: To improve students’ understanding of the country, Constitution, the Basic Law, and the concept of 'one country, two systems', the school implements National and National Security Education through classroom teaching and Life-wide Learning Activities.
6. Our school promotes examination and assessment management literacy and has been accredited a certificate in Quality Assessment Management Accreditation Scheme (QAMAS) by Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority.
