Learning and Teaching Plan

Whole-school Language Policy:
Our school highly values English teaching and learning. Since the 2010-11 academic year, we have been using English as the main medium of instruction in our S.1 classes. (Please refer to the subjects offered in 2022/2023 and 2023/2024 School Year for further information). We foster improvements in our students’ English standard by offering various language activities, such as The English Language Institute in China’s (ELIC) English Summer Program, summer camps for learning English through cultural exchanges, English study tours to England and Australia, English Action Days, English drama competitions and performances. Students also take part in the English speech festival, English public speaking competitions, Scrabble competitions and debate competitions. To enhance the learning and teaching of English, our school uses English as the primary medium of instruction for many subjects. In addition, the daily announcements played in the morning on our PA system are conducted in English. On Saturday mornings, the school also conducts various English learning class.

Learning and Teaching Strategies:
To facilitate school development, our school has the following focuses:
1. Fostering proactive and self-motivated learners, arranging a timetabled self-regulated learning period to develop students’ lesson preparation and reflection habits.
2. Enhancing students’ proficiency in English learning to raise their English standards.
3. Introducing the Global Classroom programmes to offer students the opportunity to interact with foreigners and stimulate their curiosity about the world.
4. Establishing different measures, such as adopting the “Three-Tier Implementation Model”, to cater for learner differences and to plan and implement school-based gifted education, such as conducting tutorial and enrichment classes for both high and low achievers.
5. Promoting e-learning using e-learning platforms and applications such as Microsoft Teams, LoiloNote, Nearpod and eClass to arouse students’ interest in learning and cultivate the spirit of self-learning.
6. Enhancing learning effectiveness by teaching students useful learning strategies such as mind mapping, techniques to increase concentration, reading strategies, group discussions and note-taking skills.
7. Creating an atmosphere that encourages striving for excellence and personal development as well as recognises outstanding performance and significant improvement.

School-based curriculum:
1. Electives: 3X. 12 elective subjects. Most of them use English as the Medium of Instruction.
2. Curriculum highlights: To equip students with the necessary knowledge for the NSS curriculum, different curricula have been designed in addition to the formal curriculum. For example, for Junior forms, we offer Life Education and Computer Studies. To widen students’ learning experiences, Other Learning Experiences (OLE) sessions are scheduled in the afternoon of every Day 6. This allows committees and subject panels to organise diverse learning activities to promote a well-balanced, whole-person development in our students.

Development of the Four Key Tasks:
Cultivating Reading Habits: Reading across Curriculum (RaC) is an integral part of our curriculum. Students are given opportunities to read books and share their reading experiences in the RaC lessons. The school has students participate in the eRead Scheme. Additionally, the Library, English and Chinese departments encourage reading through a series of programmes and activities. Subject teachers, alongside their duties to teach subject content, also focus on enhancing students' English Language competence in reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills. There is collaboration across the curriculum for the purpose of aligning the teaching curriculum to cater for the language needs of students. The school is working with HKU Technology-Enriched Learning Initiative (TELI), led by Dr. Leon Lei, and one of the top MOOCs platforms, Coursera, for the first school-based Secondary 4 MOOCs curriculum. Secondary Four students from CCCKYC will be engaged in the new school-based MOOC curriculum offered by HKU TELI and Coursera. Apart from the training session provided by HKU TELI, CCCKYC students will be supported by Coursera to attain free verified certificates issued by top universities in the world.

Life Planning Education:
Our school equips students with information on further studies and career choices. We also develop students' understanding of their interests, abilities, potentials and needs so that they can make better subject or career choices. We have set up the Career Life Planning Day. Every year, class teachers meet with every student in their class to help them set goals and better understand their own development plans, so that the students can have a clear target to work towards.

Student Support

Whole School Approach to Catering for Learner Diversity:
1. We promote a whole school inclusive education approach to support students with special educational needs.
2. We are one of the Education Bureau’s Gifted Education Partner Schools.
3. We promote Gifted Education through the following three tiers:
The first tier (school-based, whole school): train students’ high order thinking skills, creativity, and social skills. The second tier (school-based, pull out): provide students with various extended courses in different subjects and leadership training. The third tier (outside school support): nominate students to participate in gifted classes outside school.

Whole School Approach to Integrated Education:
Our school strives to create an atmosphere of love and care as we strongly believe each student’s uniqueness is valued. To cater for students with special educational needs (SEN) through the Whole School Approach, our school has built a Student Supporting Team comprising a teacher coordinator, an educational psychologist, a speech therapist, social workers, a counsellor, and subject teachers. With the aim to provide students with appropriate and diversified support services, “Big Brothers and Big Sisters” is one of our school’s peer mentoring programmes designed to help students assimilate into campus life. Furthermore, to take care of students’ learning differences, the adjustments of assignments, tests, and examinations are implemented and to boost students’ learning efficiency. Additionally, the tutoring classes are held after class on a regular basis. Our school attaches great importance to the cooperation between home and school. A constant communication mechanism between parents and school is established. Via different communication channels, parents get more involvements in school. At our school, parents and teachers work together to develop strategies for supporting students.

Home-School Co-operation and School Ethos

Home-School Co-operation:
The Parent-Teacher Association was established to enhance home-school collaboration. A wide range of activities are held including the English, Mathematics, and Science Enhancement Programmes, as well as seminars, workshops, outings, etc.

School Ethos:
Our school has a harmonious school ethos, and our students are well-disciplined. To foster their holistic development, we provide students with various supportive measures such as the S.1 Caring and Development Group, the “I Can Do it Scheme”, Kei Yuen Award, the Merit Award Scheme, and the Principal’s Meeting with Outstanding Students Scheme. Also, the Counselling Committee runs the Big Brothers and Big Sisters Scheme as well as the After School Learning Support Programme for S.1 students. The Moral, Civic and National Education Committee organises various activities to enhance the development of students’ multiple intelligences.

Apart from organising Professional Development Days, the school encourages teachers to pursue further education continuously and to participate in the New Staff Mentorship Scheme, Peer Mentorship Scheme, peer lesson observations and open lessons to reinforce professional development.

In HKDSE 2022, the average percentage of Level 2 or above in all subjects taken was 95%. The percentage was far above the Hong Kong average. The average percentages of Level 2 or above in English Language and Chinese Language were 97% and 100% respectively. The percentages of level 4 or above were higher than the Hong Kong average. The average percentage of level 2 or above in the four core subjects (Chinese Language, English Language, Mathematics and Liberal Studies) was 96%, which were higher than the Hong Kong average. The average percentages of Level 4 or above in 11 subjects were far above the Hong Kong average. The percentage of S6 graduates meeting the entrance requirements of sub-degree programmes and degree programmes was 91%, which was far above the Hong Kong average .
