Learning and Teaching Plan
Whole-school Language Policy:
Mother-tongue education is implemented in the school. Bi-literate and trilingual training are emphasized as well. We help students enhance their language proficiency and bilingual communication skills through activities such as the NET scheme, English Week, Reading schemes, English songs singing contest, Speech Festival, debate competition and project-based learning.
Learning and Teaching Strategies:
Circulars are uploaded in eClass to facilitate communication between parents and school. Learning circles are formed to carry out research on students' learning. Our curriculums are updated regularly. Our action research ensure smooth implementation of the new curriculum and students' enjoyment in learning. We have Morning Reading Sessions to boost students' language ability. We promotes extensive reading and awards students through Extensive Reading Scheme. We were the champion of the HKEdCity's TV news programme, awarded 'The highest participation rate' and 'The highest score'. E-learning is promoted to facilitate teaching and learning. Our school-based gifted education policy provides diversified learning experience for students to develop their potentials. We also promote self-regulated learning to establish good learning habits and attitude. Four teachers from our school received The Chief Executive's Award for Teaching Excellence in 2009 and 2011.

2. Curriculum highlights: School-based curriculum has been developed and implemented in certain subjects to cater for the learning needs of our students. We also focus on the design of effective teaching methods and materials. With the help of QEF and School-based support services, we have successfully developed school-based curriculum in Chinese Language, English Language, Mathematics, Liberal Studies, Technology Education and Visual Arts.
Development of the Four Key Tasks:
Reading to Learn: We have reading sections in Chinese, English and Liberal Studies lessons to develop reading skills. Students share good books during morning assembly monthly. We implement whole-school Extensive Reading Scheme to reinforce reading habit. We encourage students to participate in intra and inter-school reading schemes, bookcrossing activity, library exhibitions and author sharing sessions. Also, the school implements diversified reading award schemes and the outcome is outstanding. We received awards from HKEdCity including "The Highest Participation of Students Yearly", "The Champion of the Schools in Hong Kong in Achieving Proficiency in Reading Annually", "Best Performance Award" and "Junior Form School Award" in English Central Easter Challenge (eREAP). In 2021-22, we implemented Read@E-café project funded by Project WeCan to open an e-café and renovate English Language Study Room and the library. Through diversified programmes, students' language proficiency can be enhanced.
Experiential learning: PSHE department organises excursions and visits for the junior secondary students and carries out project learning activities to train presentation and collaboration skills. The school holds "Eye on the World" programmes, liberal studies lessons and Current Affairs Activity Day yearly to raise students' moral and civic awareness.
Information technology for interactive learning: Wireless network, cloud-based services, iPads for students (BYOD) and teachers are in place to promote interactive learning and teaching in class; "EdV Online Classroom" funded by QEF has been launched with self-study video clips and teaching materials designed by different subject teachers uploaded to "edv.tllf.edu.hk"; Mathematics Department has successfully applied QEF funding to run the programme "Learning Mathematics through GeoGebra" (www.gmath.hk) to help students grasp abstract Mathematical concepts.
Life Planning Education:
We put utter emphasis on students' life planning. We aim to help students to unearth their own interests, nurture their own potentials and set their own personal goals through systematic talks, workshops and activities. They also learn about different occupations through various career exploration activities. Whole School Approach to Catering for Learner Diversity:
S.1 to S.6 students are streamed into smaller groups for Chinese Language, English Language, Mathematics and Liberal Studies. We also offer different extracurricular activities for our students. Under Inclusive Education Committee, we have Social Skills Classes, Reading and Writing Classes, etc for students with special educational needs. We have formed Learning Support Team and Guidance Prefect Team to help students with special educational needs. For Non Chinese Speaking students, we have also provided Chinese language learning and teaching support.
Whole School Approach to Integrated Education:
S.1 to S.6 students are streamed into smaller groups for Chinese Language, English Language, Mathematics and Liberal Studies. We differentiate worksheets to cater for students with diverse abilities. We offer extracurricular activities to facilitate the development of students' multiple intelligence. We have Special Educational Needs Support Teachers (SENSTs) and has appointed a Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO) to lead and promote the school's inclusive culture. The Inclusive Education Committee provides different programmes for students with special educational needs, such as social skills training group, reading and writing group, career and life planning programme, and many other activities. In addition, we have established the Guidance Prefect Team to help students with special educational needs in order to build their self-confidence. Our school also promotes Home-School Co-operation to give support to parents and students with special educational needs. Early identification and timely intervention for students with speech and language impairment (SLI) enable them to learn more effectively. Our school offers speech therapy for students with SLI to enhance their language related skills and communication skills. We provide support for NCS SEN students through inclusive programmes and appointed a teaching assistant to cultivate learning environment in school, facilitate peer support among NCS students with SEN and local students. Activities include voluntary services, voice-over classes which helps integrate them into school life.

Home-School Co-operation and School Ethos
Home-School Co-operation:
The school actively promotes the co-operation between school and parents. There are over thirty home-school activities annually, including Secondary One Orientation Day during the summer holiday, voluntary work, parents' workshops and seminars on communication and emotional support, love and concern activities and the discussion of school policies. The Parent-Teacher Association has successfully applied for Quality Education Fund, with a funding of around $180,000 so as to promote mental and physical health for students through Home–School cooperation in 2009.
School Ethos:
Our school adheres much attention to students' discipline and whole-person development. With our dual or trio class teacher system, social workers and educational psychologist, we work hand in hand to promote values education through nurturing in our students the nine priority values and attitudes including "Perseverance", "Respect for Others", "Responsibility", "National Identity", "Commitment", "Integrity" , "Care for Others", "Law-abidingness", "Empathy" and "Diligence". Dr. Tam Yik Fong has donated $1,000,000 to set up the Dr. Tam Yik Fong Fund which awards scholarships to students with outstanding achievements in various aspects.

Future Development
School Development Plan:
Our school strives hard to secure extra resources in order to support students' learning. In 2021, our school was granted $3.22 million by Community Investment and Inclusion Fund (CIIF) to launch Project on Generation Connect through Fitness and Easy Sports to help students build up strong bonding to the community and live harmoniously with the elderly. We were also granted $500,000 by Project WeCan to enhance students' language proficiency.
Our school also emphasizes developing students' potentials in STEM. Our students have got many awards. Three asteroids are named after three outstanding students, Chan Yik Hei, Wong Sum Ming and Li Kin Pong. In 2015, Guo Yihuang received the Roche Young Scientist Award (RYSA). We have been the only district training centre in Western New Territory under “Fusion between Chinese Cultural Arts and Robotics Project” and we have won the Soong Ching Ling Awards for Children's Invention Demonstration Centre. Moreover, our school has implemented STEM Maker Space: Experiential Learning Project with Quality Education Fund. Our school will continue to apply for Quality Education Fund to get more resources to promote STEM education.
Our school also explores students' potential in non-academic aspects, Under the pandemic, online exchange programmes are arranged, therefore we subsidize students in joining different study tours to other countries such as Germany, Britain, Swiss, Canada, USA, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, India, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, China, Macau and Mongolia.
Teacher Professional Training and Development:
Teachers are encouraged to participate in professional development trainings. There are at least three in-house staff development programs every school year. A teacher induction program is conducted for new teachers. Teachers actively participate in workshops, seminars and exchange programs organized by EDB, universities and other professional institutes and exchange programs co-organized by our Singapore and Mainland sister schools. Our SENCO was nominated to participate in i–Journey' Paid Non-local Study Leave Scheme for Secondary School Teachers organized by EDB. In the school year 2021/2022, our teacher was appointed as the seconded teacher who represented our school to serve as Centre of Excellence (CoE) at IT in Education Section of EDB specialising at teacher training for eLearning development in primary and secondary schools.
In order to create a sport climbing culture, we have 10, 35 and 35 teachers who have acquired sport climbing instructor, First Aid and Automated External Defibrillation certification respectively.
Life-wide Learning (including Five Essential Learning Experiences to be provided through Key Learning Areas, extra-curricular activities, co-curricular activities, etc.):
Many students have outstanding performances and have won a lot of prizes in different international competitions, such as Intel International Science and Technology Fair in the USA and Asia Sport Climbing Competition. Our junior form students won the 2013 VEX Robotics World Championship CREATE AWARD. Following the footsteps of Chan Yik Hei, Wong Sum Ming and Li Kin Pong received a second place award in Materials Science in Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (Intel ISEF) and an asteroid each named after these two young budding scientists in 2015. They were the first HK students who won the Golden invention prize of Geneva International Exhibition of Inventions in 2016. Other long-standing sports teams such as the basketball team, handball team, karate team, bowling team and bench press have won frequent championships. Students have also won championships in various videotaping, photography and audio-visual competitions.
