Orientation Activities and Healthy Living

There are orientation activities for the Secondary One students including day camps, induction courses, adventure-based activities, discipline training, and bridging programmes. There are also Parents' Days and talks for the guardians of Secondary One students. To facilitate students proceeding to S1, we have organized workshops of learning strategies, uniform group training, various Life-wide Learning activities and project-based learning activities.
We believe that all students can be successful. With the theories of Invitational Education, our teaching staff care for the development of each of our students. A Healthy Campus Unit has been set up to promote Health Education in school. There is also implementation of Environmental Education and "Creative, Sports and Aesthetic Campus". We hold annual Fruit Day to promote healthy diets and encourage students to lead a healthy life.

School Facilities (for Supporting Students with Special Educational Needs)

Other than the standard facilities, to facilitate teaching and learning, there are English Learning Centre, Multi-purpose Lecture Theatre, "CCASS Times - Care and Learning Square", School TV Campus, Career and Life Planning Room, Diversity Learning Activities Room, Parent Resources Room, D&T Steam room and Activity Room for the Student Union. There are also lift and elevating platform for students with special needs. Our school is fully equipped with optical fibre and wifi network for eLearning and mobile learning. Several renovations had been done last year to improve the school facilities such as the renovation of all the classrooms, the installation of electronic whiteboard and LED screen, reconstruction of D&T Room etc. With the resources from Project WeCan of Wharf, a new activity platform tentatively named "CCASS Times - Care and Learning Square" has been built to facilitate the diversified development of the students.

School Management Organisation:
Incorporated Management Committee of the school has been established since 2006 for the school-based management and the interactions among the school board, teaching staff, parents and students through regular meetings and daily communications.

Incorporated Management Committee / School Management Committee / Management Committee:
The Incorporated Management Committee of the school and the School Sponsoring Body work hand in hand for the development of the school, e.g. providing financial support for employing more teaching and counselling staff, maintaining a small class size, and subsidizing the study trips, etc.

School Green Policy:
The school was awarded Hong Kong Green School Award in years 2009, 2012, 2013, 2016 and 2019; Certificate of Merit in Hong Kong Awards for Environmental Excellence - Sector (Secondary Schools) in years 2012 and 2013. Recently, the school has successfully applied for [Green School 2.0] to install Inverter Air-conditioners, LED Lighting and Real-time Energy Monitoring Systems. Adopting energy efficient systems and innovative technologies help to enhance energy saving awareness of students. The school has also established Environmental Protection Policies. There are inter-class activities of promoting greenery planting, recycling and energy saving etc. There is a student Prefect of Environmental Protection in each class to carry out associated tasks.

Learning and Teaching Plan

Whole-school Language Policy:
Our school adopts Chinese as the medium of instruction. Putonghua lessons are also provided. Our school emphasizes on students' English learning and employs Native English-speaking Teachers to provide more English speaking opportunities to students. Our school opens S1 English enhancement class with collaboration from the Hang Seng University of Hong Kong. Various English learning activities such as English Speaking Days and English Games are also held to encourage students to speak English.

Learning and Teaching Strategies:
With "Successful Education" being the philosophy, the school adopts diversified teaching and learning strategies, such as e-learning, self-directed learning and student-centered learning to enhance the effectiveness of teaching and learning. Outbound study trips for all students in both junior and senior secondary classes are held to further enrich their learning experience. The development of each Key Learning Area curriculum is based on the core curriculum suggested by Education Bureau. On top of that, a school-based e-learning curriculum has been designed to cater to students' abilities and meet the requirements of society. The school has also developed a school-based STEAM curriculum, through collaboration across subjects, to boost the students' creativity and problem solving skills. In addition, we have implemented the "BYOD" program to strengthen the students' self-leaning abilities.

School-based curriculum:
1. Electives: 3X. Other than the elective subjects provided by our school, students can take elective subjects and Applied Learning Programmes.
2. Curriculum highlights: Based on the school mission and the students needs, the school provides Life and Social Education lessons, Outbound Study Trips, Life-wide Learning Activities, Sports and Aesthetic Development, Introduction of Learning Strategies and Service-Learning programmes to broaden students' horizons and experience success from study and life.

Development of the Four Key Tasks:
In terms of curriculum development, our school focuses on the implementation of the four key tasks. In addition to the cultivation of the seven values and attitudes in the past, Perseverance and Diligence have been added to promote values education. The school provides life education courses for parents as well. Through different types of activities such as weekly assembly, whole-person development periods, talks, visits and exhibitions, students are able to develop the ability of distinguishing right from wrong and law-abidingness. In terms of reading across curriculum, our school is committed to promoting reading through various reading schemes and activities. In addition, we recommend Hyread, an e-book platform, to S1 students to provide them diversified reading sources. We also develop S.1 to S.3 STEAM project learning which allows students to choose their own subject for further study and apply what they have learnt to solve daily life problems. As for information technology, our school has implemented [BYOD] to facilitate students learning and arouse students interest. By integrating information literacy into classroom learning, students are able to use information technology ethically and effectively.

Life Planning Education:
Life and career Planning Education is one of the key areas of concern of the school. Various company visits and job-tasting programmes are provided to the students to prepare them for their future life. The Careers Committee collaborates with external professional bodies to conduct career and life planning activities during Life and Social Education lessons. Students can hence, through a series of learning activities, understand their own learning styles, discover their own self, establish their own objectives for further studies, and prepare well for their 6 years of secondary school life.
In the past few years, our school has been fully supported by the Wharf [Project WeCan]. Various company visits have been arranged to enable students to listen to sharings from the front-line staff, understand the operation of large enterprises and even participate in the job. During summer holidays, senior secondary students are able to apply for a three-week job-tasting programme provided by the Wharf. Through then internship, students experience workplace and understand the attitudes required by the society. We also hold seminars of career planning that enables students to prepare for their career and future life.

Student Support

Whole School Approach to Catering for Learner Diversity:
Individual counselling and support are provided to those students with special needs. Our school has rich and successful experience in this area and we have conducted various talks to share our practical experience with teachers of other schools. Counselling teachers, school social worker, education psychologist and student counselors follow the school-based progress for Catering Students with Special Educational Needs" to provide timely supports to the students in need, to communicate with the corresponding parents and teachers, and to let all teachers, through staff meetings, understand the suitable basic strategies for facilitating the development of these students. This year, to provide even better services to the students, our school joins the "JC A-Connect: Jockey Club Autism Support Network" which is funded by Jockey Club and collaborated with University of Hong Kong. Our school successfully applied for the Partnership Fund from the Social Service Department this year, hence we can provide after-school learning support programmes for the junior secondary students aiming at improving their learning and facilitating their holistic development.

Whole School Approach to Integrated Education:
The "Student Support Committee” and "Special Educational Needs Coordinator” provide individual support for students with special educational needs (S.E.N.). Our school also strives to pave the way for students with S.E.N. to enter the job market and further their educational studies by working closely with the “Career and Planning Group” as well as inviting professionals to our school to share their advice and suggestions.
Through participation in “JC A-Connect: Jockey Club Autism Support Network”, our school receives abundant resources to offer students S.E.N. services, training and the development of “Individual Education Plans”.

Measures to provide adaptation for Learning and Assessment:
Based on the principle of "Frequent Assessment, Quick Feedback, and Immediate Correction", we adopt the mode of continuous assessment. There are 2 Interim Assessments and 2 Term Examinations. The performance of the homework, classroom exercises, short quizzes and projects etc. are all included in the assessment results. In junior secondary level, curriculum adjustment policies are adopted for nurturing the learning diversities of the students.

Home-School Co-operation and School Ethos

Home-School Co-operation:
The Parents and Teachers Association has been established for 23 years. Every year, the Association organizes regular talks and family activities, publishes newsletters, conducts volunteer services, and provides green campus services etc. to enhance the sense of belonging of students and parents to the school.

School Ethos:
Based on the mission of providing a caring school culture, various class management activities are conducted including two class teachers for Secondary 1 to Secondary 5 classes, staying school for lunch etc. Apart from school social workers, there are professional counselors to implement various development activities such as the Growth Channel, the My Class My Home activity, the I Can Fly programme, the Healthy Life programme, and the Big Brothers and Sisters caring programme. There are also Learning Camps, Challenging and Development Camps, School-Business Collaboration Volunteer Services etc. aiming at enhancing the school caring culture. This year, our school continues to receive sponsorships from our School Sponsoring Body accordingly for organizing the Secondary 1, 2 and 4 Outbound Study Trips, Teaching and Learning programmes, Student Development activities, Workplace Experiential Programme, etc.

Teacher Professional Training and Development:
Other than the 3 specific Staff Development Days, there are sharing sessions by fellow teachers in the monthly staff meetings. Our teachers actively participate in the seminars and courses concerning the areas of catering for students with special educational needs and eLearning. Our teachers are frequently invited by the Education Bureau and other schools to share the successful experiences of our school.

Life-wide Learning (including Five Essential Learning Experiences to be provided through Key Learning Areas, extra-curricular activities, co-curricular activities, etc.):
There are various extracurricular activities in our school, such as Sports Club, Academic Clubs, Uniform Groups and Service Teams etc. A specific period within the timetable on Friday is allocated for the Other Learning Experiences for all the students, and an additional period on Saturday is also allocated for the Uniform Groups of Secondary One students. There are cross-curriculum activities like the Life-wide Learning Week, Talent and Variety Show, Mathematics and Science Carnival, Life Education Day, Reading Days, English Speaking Days etc. Furthermore, there are whole-Form study trips for all students.
