Learning and Teaching Plan

Whole-school Language Policy:
The biliterate and trilingual environment provided by the school gives Sun Kei students an advantage of a firm and diverse language basis. The school adopts English as the medium of instruction for all subjects except the Chinese-related subjects, Chinese History, Visual Arts and Religious Education. For S.1 and S.2, Chinese Language lessons are taught in Putonghua. Our English teachers communicate with students in English every day. Tuesdays and Fridays are school-wide English-speaking Days, while Thursdays are Putonghua-speaking Days. We strive to create a language-rich environment to nurture students. The Language Across the Curriculum (LAC) program advocates the collaboration between Junior Forms of the English Department and other subject departments in areas ranging from enhancing cross-curriculum design, to collaborative teaching and exploration of pedagogy. These measures constitute the coupling with learning in senior forms. The Education Bureau invited Sun Kei to participate in the “Professional Development Schools (PDS) Scheme” to share our Chinese and English teaching strategies and experiences with other schools. Furthermore, two Native-speaking English Teachers (NET) have been recruited to enhance the English aura of the school.
