Secondary One Entrance

Our school will accept discretionary places. Our school will participate in the Secondary School Places Allocation System through central allocation stage (Applicable for admission to S.1 in September 2023 ).Admission criteria for S.1: P.5 and P.6 1st term conduct must attain at least B grade or above. EDB Rank Order List 30%, Conduct 10%, Extra Curricular Activities and Social Service 20%, Interview (will be conducted in English and Cantonese. Chinese, English and Maths skill, as well as attitude and communication skills will be assessed) 40%. Extra score for school connection (e.g. elder brothers/sisters studying in CAC, parents are graduates of CAC) will be added (not more than 5%).

Orientation Activities and Healthy Living

S.1 Adaptation Programme includes Orientation Day and ECA Introductory Talk for both new students and parents, parents' talk, summer bridging course in English and Maths, summer interest class. In September, Orientation Camp and parents’ meeting will be held. Counselling Department conducts Big Brothers & Sisters Scheme to help S.1 students adapt to the new life in secondary school.

We have Multi-media Learning Centre, Language Laboratory, Multi-media Production Centre, 2 computer rooms, Self-access English Learning Centre, Student Activity Centre, Campus TV Studio, 2 standard basketball courts, volleyball court, indoor badminton court, table-tennis courts and garden. All classrooms and hall are with air-conditioning. School Management

School's Major Concerns:
Active Learning: Curriculum design, teaching strategies, learning assessment and on-line learning platform are adopted to foster students' active learning. We equip students with basic competence for self-regulated learning, cultivate good learning attitude and habits so that students know how to plan their learning progress and evaluate their learning outcome. Results of public exam can be enhanced as well. Positive Education: We cultivate students with positive emotion, positive relationship and character strengths. We help students engage in school life, establish sense of achievement and discover meaning of life.

School Management Organisation:
There are eleven departments, including Administration, Curriculum & Teaching, Academic Administration, IT, Careers, Moral & Civic Education, Discipline, Counselling, Extra-curricular Activities, Religious and General Affairs. Teachers are consulted when major decisions are made. School policies are open and fair. We encourage teachers to create a professional learning community.

Learning and Teaching Plan

Whole-school Language Policy:
We emphasize biliteracy and tri-lingualism. Extra resources have been allocated to enhance the English standard of our students. Based on the concept of gifted education, ability grouping is adopted in both junior and senior forms for class allocation. In some classes (S.1 & S.2), Science and Life and Society will be taught in English. Besides, English and Chinese remedial teaching is conducted with smaller class size, so as to better cater for students' learning diversities. A self-access learning centre and an on-line learning platform have been set up. Learning activities are also organized by the NET to enhance students' motivation and interest in learning English. Chinese Language is taught in Cantonese. To boost the Putonghua proficiency, we offer Putonghua lesson in all junior forms.

Learning and Teaching Strategies:
We develop active learning continuously. Our vision is to create an enjoyable learning and teaching environment to enhance the teaching effectiveness. We hope our students will possess a good learning attitude with good learning habits. Among the teaching staff, we encourage them to create a learning circle to share their teaching skills. In Junior forms, we provide broad curriculum. For Senior forms, we offer Science, Arts and Commerce streams to meet the needs of our students and match the university entrance requirement. Apart from Extensive Reading Scheme of Chinese Language and English Language, we have Reading Lessons every week for students to build up their reading habit. Whole-school WiFi network and an on-line learning platform have been established and tablets have been purchased for implementing eLearning.

School-based curriculum:
1. Electives: 2X and 3X. Provide Arts, Science and Commercial subjects. Students can choose two subjects among the various Arts, Sciences and Commercial subjects. The more capable students can take 3 elective subjects. Others are also provided with APL(Vocational English), Chinese and English enhancement lessons.
2. Curriculum highlights: (i) Students who are gifted in English/Maths will be allocated to English elite class or Maths elite classes whereas Chinese, English and Maths remedial teaching is conducted with smaller class size in junior and senior forms. Class-based teaching materials are designed to cater for students’ learning diversities. (ii) School-based curriculum and teaching materials are adopted in Junior form Life Education. (iii) In senior forms, we have school-based subjects, including Visual Arts, Music, Drama, Dancing and Creative Media. Common skills of students, such as communication and cooperation skills are sharpened, learning horizons is widened and self-confidence is enhanced through the preparation for the in-stage performance.

Development of the Four Key Tasks:
i)Reading to Learn: We have Reading Lessons every week, to build up students' reading habit. A special team is set up to promote reading habit and organize related activities. ii)Project Learning: Cross-curricular STEAM project learning programmes are implemented among various junior subjects, such as science, computer, Maths, Design & Technology. iii)Civic and Moral Education: We strive to help students to develop good character and positive values towards life with focus on civil responsibility and voluntary service. Sex education starts in junior forms to nurture students with the right attitude towards sex. iv)For IT in Education: We have computers and visualizers in each classroom. Whole-school WiFi network and an on-line learning platform have been established and tablets have been purchased to provide the necessary environment for the successful implementation of eLearning. Continuous improvement in software and hardware of information technology enhances teaching and learning. A STEAM committee has been established to promote STEM education.

Life Planning Education:
With the theme of “self-realisation”, we aim to let students understand more about their interests, personalities and vocational preferences through workshops and talks. Through seminars on choosing elective subjects, we enable Junior form students and parents to know more about the NSS structure and the mechanism for the allocation of subjects. Armed with such knowledge, they can then make more informed choices. Teachers provide senior form students the opportunity to have face-to-face counselling about life planning. The school social worker also provides service to students concerning career guidance. We take the initiative to meet with DSE candidates to review their academic results, set goals and study plans. We also give them encouragement where necessary. We provide mock interviews, a mock HKDSE result release day and internships in order to equip students for the challenges they will face later in life.

Student Support

Whole School Approach to Catering for Learner Diversity:
Class streaming according to student academic ability. We introduce various learning workshops, such as learning skill, reading strategy and critical thinking skill training to students. We arrange school remedial classes to underachieving students. We adopt a “Dual Class Teacher” system in the Junior forms to strengthen student’s academic support and personal development. To help students with special educational needs develop their potential to the full, our school has set up a Student Support team to cater for their needs. For the sake of comprehensive support to students, full-time stationing services are also provided by a school-based social worker, psychologist and speech therapist. We have established school policy to cater for students’ learning diversities.

Whole School Approach to Integrated Education:
Student support team (SST) is coordinated by the Vice-principal of Studies. Members include SENCO, SENST, Heads of Counselling Department. Head of Discipline Department, major subject panels, education psychologist and school social workers. The Team coordinates, implements, reviews and refines various SEN measures, with pursuing integrated education the ultimate goal. A teaching assistant is arranged to give SENs support in their daily life. With Learning Support Grant and supports from our School Management Body, professional services of education psychologist and speech therapist are provided, making early intervention, follow-up and referrals possible for students in need. To broaden students’ horizons, improve their social skills and enhance their confidence, various types of activities are organised. For students with special learning difficulties or low-achievers, tutorial classes are organised after school to improve their learning skills and performance. Special examination arrangements can be arranged for those in need.

Home-School Co-operation and School Ethos

Home-School Co-operation:
To enable parents to understand more about the school, we organise different activities for them. In recent years, we have developed parents voluntary service policy and let parents directly involve in the implementation of activities. The result is good.

School Ethos:
We put heavy emphasis on maintaining a pure and unsophisticated school climate. Dual class teachers and programmes are organized by Discipline and Counselling Departments, such as Self-actuation Scheme, All-rounded Development Award, Big Brothers & Sisters Scheme which cater for students’ individual needs. In moral and civic education, we introduce voluntary project, civic ambassador, environmental ambassador and health ambassador to equip our students. Through these activities, we equip our students with a positive value.

Future Development

School Development Plan:
Active Learning: Through curriculum design, teaching strategies, learning assessment and on-line learning platform, we aim to foster students’ active learning. We participated in the Active Learning Module of the "Quality School Improvement Project" of CUHK so as to continuously improve the curriculum and teaching. We participate in the learning community of the Hong Kong Association of the Heads of Secondary Schools, the School-based Support Project provided by EDB and teacher sharing programmes organised by the school sponsoring body to further enhance teachers' understanding and improve practice of self-regulated learning through lesson observation and professional collaboration. Strategies for self-regulated learning and teaching pedagogies are carefully developed and put in place to strengthen the effectiveness of teaching and learning. Positive Education: Introducing the "PERMA" framework via teacher training, professional sharing sessions and class lessons for students. The goal is to cultivate students with positive emotion, positive relationship and character strengths. We help students engage in school life, establish sense of achievement, discover meaning of life, enhance students' problem solving skills, self aspiration and sense of belonging to school.

Teacher Professional Training and Development:
We emphasize continuing professional development and cultivating the culture of professional learning community. Besides holding staff development day, we also participate in partnership programme of local university, invite professional support from EDB and organise school visits and professional exchange with other secondary schools through learning circle programmes. We also encourage our teaching staff to join the SEED projects organised by CDI and participate in peer lesson observation. Moreover, our teachers participate in middle management training programmes and overseas exchange programmes organised by the school sponsoring body, the i-Journey overseas exchange programme organised by EDB.

Life-wide Learning (including Five Essential Learning Experiences to be provided through Key Learning Areas, extra-curricular activities, co-curricular activities, etc.):
Our school's key foci are on music, uniformed groups and sports school teams at junior forms. Music training includes Western musical instruments such as violin, viola, cello, clarinet, flute and percussion, whereas Chinese musical instruments include flute, erhu, guzheng, dulcimer, lute, liuqin, suona, sheng and percussion. Choir, Chinese Orchestra, String Orchestra and Band Groups are developed. The uniformed groups in our school include boys scout, girls guide and Red Cross. School sports teams includes basketball, volleyball, football, badminton, track and field etc. Dancing, debate teams are available. Also, there are many interest groups such as computer, art, pottery, photography, chess, drama and cooking. We have Volunteer works, Community Youth Club and more than 30 groups for students to choose. Outing and field work studies are organized by different subjects on a regular basis. Study tours outside Hong Kong are also organized every year.
