Orientation Activities and Healthy Living
The S.1 summer induction program provides a series of learning and experiential activities in two phases including English Bridging Course and various interest group activities, Orientation Day and training on school routine and learning skills, etc. We also offer talks on secondary school life and trial lessons to parents of new S.1 students. Through this program, parents can obtain more information and experience of the school life at DLS.

School's Major Concerns:

School Management Organisation:
With the implementation of school-based management, School Improvement Team and Administration Board are established to allow active participation of more teachers in the process of policymaking. The two Vice Principals supervise the Academic Board (AB) and Student Development & Support Committee (SD&SC). Various teams under the AB take care of and optimize the development of the teaching curriculum and related policies so as to strengthen the effectiveness of student learning. The SD&SC systematically integrates the related executive teams for the provision of suitable support and care programs to the students.

The Incorporated Management Committee consists of Lasallian Brother, principal, alumni, teachers, parents and various professionals. It steers the developmental direction of the school and monitor the mechanism of operation for enabling the betterment of school governance.

Learning and Teaching Plan
Whole-school Language Policy:
1. "Biliterate Trilingualism" is advocated by adopting Chinese as the major medium of instruction with emphases on English and Putonghua.
2. Adopting a program of ‘Extended Learning Activities in English’. English Learning is added in all non-language subjects at junior levels which enriches student exposure to learning English and enhances student motivation.
3. The English Environment Enrichment Program is in place. English Focus Day is held every Wednesday to encourage reading and speaking in English, to provide fun English activities and overseas visits to La Salle Schools of Singapore, Philippines and Australia for authentic English environment, etc. School-based curriculum reform is being conducted. Teachers have developed school-based teaching materials to cater for learner diversity and enhance learning effectiveness.
4. Making use of supplementary resources from, e.g. Project WeCan; Newly-arrived Children Grant; School-based Learning and Support Grant, and Language Fund. The provision of supplementary English learning and after-school classes for different levels especially for junior levels with a focus on catering for learner diversity and enhancing English learning support.
Learning and Teaching Strategies:
1. As English is one of the major concerns of the school, school-based English curriculum for junior levels, co-curricular activities for English enhancement and after-school English learning support scheme have been implemented.
2. Pedagogy of interactive lessons and IT in education (e.g., using iPad, smart board and VLE online learning platform) have been developed to enhance learning effectiveness.
3. Nurturing student effective learning habits through lesson preparation, regular revision, note-taking and on-time homework submission.
4. Mid-term assessment with diverse modes is conducted to encourage learner feedback thus enhancing the effectiveness of learning and teaching.
5. A variety of elective subjects offered in senior forms to achieve the goal of "Art in Science and Science in Art".
School-based curriculum:
1. Electives: 2X and 3X. Based on student interest and competence, more than 20 combinations of electives can be chosen by senior students to fit for their needs.
2. Curriculum highlights: In junior school, according to student aptitude and needs, school-based curricula have been developed including cross-curricular school-based STEM curriculum. Extended Learning Activities in English are conducted in non-language subjects to develop student English capacity. School-based curricula are also continuously being developed in senior forms.
Development of the Four Key Tasks:
1. Promotion of Whole-school Reading Campaign: Morning reading periods are conducted. Teachers and students share their reading experiences regularly on Campus TV. Regular sharing meetings on reading are held. Awards for reading are available. Extensive reading schemes, book fairs, writers' talks, teacher-student reading groups and other activities are also held to cultivate a reading atmosphere. 2. Information Technology for Interactive Learning: Wifi covers the whole campus. All classrooms are well set-up with computers, projectors and visualizers. iPads are available for students to be used in everyday lessons. By using collaborative learning strategies, student-centred, enquiry-based and interactive learning through information technology can be enhanced. 3. Project Learning: Project learning skills are nurtured through junior subject Life and Society. Subject-based and inter-disciplinary project learning activities are provided by individual subjects for enhancing enquiry competence. 4. Moral and Civic Education: Student Development and Support Committee formulate the school-based moral and civic education policy. The committee implements the plan through various subjects and teams in order to cultivate seven priority values and attitudes.
Life Planning Education:
1. P.A.T.H.S. is the core element of the junior form CLP curriculum. It consists of 12 units, covering different youth developmental needs. The lessons are conducted with reference to aspects of the individual, family, peers, schools and society. In order to facilitate students to prepare for the senior secondary curriculum and to set up appropriate learning objectives, Life-planning Workshops and Further Studies Guidance Talks are given to S.2 and S.3 students.
2. A scheme called 'Gear Up' is also provided for senior form students to help them establish goals related to the HKDSE and career development and, to help them maintain morale and the motivation to learn.

Whole School Approach to Catering for Learner Diversity:
1. Streaming of classes or co-teaching is used for core subjects at certain levels, including English, Chinese and Mathematics. 2. Assisted by the School-based Support Services of EDB, support programs have been provided for English Language to uprade curriculum design and effectiveness in teaching and tackling student learning diversity. 3. Support for newly-arrived children from the mainland: English and social adaptation programs are provided to facilitate student integration into Hong Kong society. 4. Widening the horizons of students through study tours.
Whole School Approach to Integrated Education:
The school implements inclusive education with the Whole School Approach. A Vice Principal leads Inclusive Education Team to plan, implement, review and evaluate the measures catering for students with special education needs. The team members include the Special Education Needs Coordinator, Psychological Counsellor, support teachers (Chinese, English, Mathematics), Social Workers and teaching assistants. In view of the individual differences between the students, the school adopts 3-tier model and makes use of the "Learning Support Grant" to provide students with appropriate and diversified supporting services to increase and enhance their motivation and confidence. The measures include: implementing small group learning for students with learning difficulties, encouraging students to use information technology while doing homework, hiring professional tutors to provide counselling on speech therapy, social skills and life planning for students; implementing the "Good Companion" scheme to encourage students with social difficulties to enhance their ability to express themselves and solve problems. Assemblies are arranged to let students know about people with different difficulties or needs in society; extra-curricular activities, such as barista training programme, micro-film production, drone control, board games are organized to cultivate students' ability to be more effective, self-confident, communicative and expressive. For students with great learning difficulties, "Individual Education Plan" are formulated and regularly reviewed jointly with students, parents, class teachers and educational psychologist.

Home-School Co-operation and School Ethos
Home-School Co-operation:
1. To strengthen communication between parents and the school through messages sent directly via a mobile phone app, regular School Newsletter, Parent-Teacher Association Newsletter, and direct phone communication and talks during Parent Days with Class Teachers.
2. A variety of activities are held by the Parent-Teacher Association such as handicraft workshops, cooking workshops, Cooking workshops, outings and parenting talks.

Future Development
School Development Plan:
1. Enhancing student English standard is one of the school's major concerns. A school-based curriculum, extra-curricular activities, after-school enhancement classes and IT in education have been implemented to improve student English language.
2. The Multi-media Learning Centre has been converted to “MakerSpace” (STEM Learning Centre).
3. More classrooms and improvement of school facilities are made for further class expansion.
