Orientation Activities and Healthy Living

Orientation activities for S.1 students: An English Bridging Programme as well as the S.1 Orientation and Parents' Day are organised in August. In order to help S.1 students adapt to the new environment, peer tutors introduce the school life to new comers and organise study groups for them.
The school is devoted to fostering students' whole personal development, developing students' healthy living habits and acquiring skills of dealing with adversity and temptation. Besides, the school incorporates the element of anti-drug addiction and health education in different subjects. Anti-drug Addiction Talk and Oral Health programmes are also organised for the students.

School Facilities (for Supporting Students with Special Educational Needs)

Facilities include a computer room, a library, an activity room, a Hoi Ping online and e-Learning resources centre, a multi-purpose room, 4 laboratories, a Geography room and a Home Economics room. A fitness centre, a STEM Maker Laboratory, and a study room have recently been set up. All classrooms, special rooms and hall are well-equipped with optical fibre to facilitate teaching and communication. School Improvement Programme was completed in Sept 2005 to extend an extra usable area of 1,500 sq. M.

School Management

School's Major Concerns:

School Management Organisation:
The Incorporated Management Committee is responsible for supervising the school operation. Different committees in the school, namely School Executive Committee, Academic, Student Affairs, Discipline, Counselling, Moral and Civic Education, Careers and Guidance and ECA committees, work together to formulate and carry out various policies to cater for the needs of the students.

School Green Policy:
Our school has adopted measures to save energy and reduce waste. Solar panels have been installed on the rooftop to help our school decarbonise with solar energy. In the classrooms, there are thermometers and notices to remind teachers and students to save energy when using air-conditioners and lights. There are recycle bins in the school campus to collect recyclable materials. 'Environmental Protection Group', 'Hoi Ping Little Gardeners' and 'Environment Ambassadors' all help to raise students' awareness of protecting the environment.

Learning and Teaching Plan

Whole-school Language Policy:
Our school uses English as MOI for all classes and all subjects other than Chinese Language, Chinese Literature, Chinese History and Putonghua. Meanwhile, we train our students to be biliterate and trilingual by providing them with a learning environment that is conducive to the learning of languages.

Learning and Teaching Strategies:
We aim at nurturing students' all-round development. We stress the importance of language proficiency and self learning skills. Apart from the formal curriculum, ample opportunities are provided for students to learn beyond the classrooms. Various kinds of activities including visits, study, trips and sharing sessions are organised to enrich students' learning experiences. These activities provide the moral and civic education that they need for life-wide learning.

School-based curriculum:
1. Electives: 3X. School-based curricula have been developed in S1-2 Chinese, English, Mathematics, Life and Society and STEM & IT to equip students with subject-specific learning skills and smoothen their transition from primary school level to junior secondary level.
2. Curriculum highlights: The curriculum of our school is tailor-made to suit the needs and interests of our students. In addition to the school-based curriculum in various academic subjects, we have also designed special programmes to enhance our students' learning and boost their confidence. Furthermore, school-based gifted programmes in different subjects are organised to enable academically gifted students to develop their potentials.

Development of the Four Key Tasks:
1. Moral and civic education is integrated into academic subjects and learning activities to nurture positive values, namely 'care', 'diligence' and 'gratitude'. Our school encourages students to participate in social services to show their concerns to the needy in the society, and to learn from voluntary experiences.
2. We have a number of activities to help students cultivate their reading habits, acquire reading skills and enrich knowledge for life-wide learning and to be all-round persons.
3. Elements of project learning have been infused in different subjects to enable students to view issues from multiple perspectives, to collect and analyse data, and to share their learning products.
4. To raise efficiency and effectiveness in learning and teaching, teachers use IT to assist teaching and learning. Multi-media is employed to explain abstract concepts and create scenarios outside classrooms. Students are also encouraged to use the internet and intranet for researching and sharing with peers and teachers.

Life Planning Education:
Elements of life planning have been infused into the curriculum of Life and Society at junior levels. Students are also given the opportunity to interview our alumni who are working in different professions. The Careers and Guidance Committee organizes various career-related activities in order to enhance students' self-understanding and knowledge of different study paths and job opportunities. These equip them with suitable skills for their future. Alumni support enriches the opportunities for students to get career-related experience through Careers Day, mentoring and job tasting programmes.

Student Support

Whole School Approach to Catering for Learner Diversity:
Our school provides counselling and assistance to students according to their abilities and needs. We believe that these will help students learn effectively and cultivate a harmonious and stable learning environment:

1. Starting from the academic year 2021/2022, class teacher period and assembly period have been introduced to offer support to student growth and development; individual counselling will be provided for each S6 student to help them prepare for further studies and set goals.
2. Various subjects offer elite classes to enrich students' subject knowledge and stretch their potential.
3. Our school nominates students to gifted programmes organised by external organisations to broaden their horizons.
4. For students who are lagging behind, our school offers enhancement classes of different subjects. For instance, after-school English, Chinese and Math remedial classes are offered to S.1 and S.2 students to help strengthen their foundation.

Whole School Approach to Integrated Education:
Ramps and lifts are available for students with physical needs. Furthermore, our school offers SEN support and referral that abide by the EDB guidelines. In addition, the post of Special Education Need Coordinator was established in our school in 2019/2020 according to EDB policy.

Home-School Co-operation and School Ethos

Home-School Co-operation:
The PTA of the school was established in 1999 to enhance communication and cooperation between the school and the parents. The PTA organises various seminars, workshops, sharing sessions and gatherings for parents. Furthermore, the PTA renders its support to the school by helping in extra-curricular activities and offering academic awards to students.

Our school encourages students to take part in both inter-school and intra-school activities. We have a Students' Union, four Houses and 45 clubs which include academic, interest, sports and service groups. Besides, there are leadership training programmes, study tours and service programmes. We also nominate students to join different outstanding student elections, and cultural exchange programmes to widen their horizons.

Others

HKDSE Examination: 2 students obtained six 5** and 6 students obtained five 5** since 2012.
Two of our students have been awarded a full scholarship under the Hong Kong Scholarship for Excellence Scheme in 2015 and 2017 to study at the University of Edinburgh and Imperial College London respectively. One of our students has been awarded the Prince Philip Scholarship to study Mathematics at the University of Cambridge in 2018.
Our school lays great emphasis on students' balanced development in academic studies and extra-curricular activities. In the Inter-school Athletics Competition, our boys have won the Overall Third position in Division 1 for the 10th time since 2008.
In 2017, our S.2 students were crowned Champion of the Hong Kong Student Science Project Competition. Some S.4 students won the 2nd runner-up of Hong Kong GreenMech Contest, and therefore represented Hong Kong to take part in the World Finals in Hangzhou, China. In addition, our S.5 students represented Hong Kong in the International Biology Olympiad in Hungary in 2019. Furthermore, our English choral speaking teams have won 26 championships in Hong Kong Schools Speech Festival since 1996. In Hong Kong School Dance Festival and Hong Kong Drama Festival, we have got an Adjudicator Recommendation Award, Outstanding Overall Performance Award, Director Award and many others.
