Learning and Teaching Plan

Whole-school Language Policy:
1. Implement the fine-tuning policy of medium of instruction. Teachers use English as the medium of instruction to teach Mathematics based on students' abilities. In the junior classes where NCS students are admitted, they learn Mathematics, Life and Society, Science, Science (S.3 Biology, Chemistry, Physics), Geography, History, Computer Literacy, Religious and Ethics Studies and School-based STEM Education through English. 2. Two Native English teachers teach English in junior and senior forms. 3. Attracted a group of excellent NCS students to join in recent years, our local students can speak English more often with their NCS classmates in class and in daily context, and that benefit their learning in English greatly.

Learning and Teaching Strategies:
1. Promoting Self-directed Learning: To develop E-learning and Cooperative Learning to enhance the effectiveness of learning and teaching. 2. School-based STEM Education: To teach students programming knowledge and skills, design and manufacture intelligence products. 3. To foster a reading culture: Morning reading periods, Reading Club and Bookcrossing Cart; holding Book Sharing Sessions, "Meet-the-Authors" talks, Read & Eat, Reading Walk; Electronic Reading Programmes and "Reading across the curriculum" schemes are launched in our school. 4. School-based Cultural Subjects Collaboration Scheme: Students are allowed to select one among the three cultural subjects i.e. Visual Arts, Music, and Design and Technology to further cultivate their personal interest. 5. Many visits and study tours are organized every year to enrich our students' life experience and broaden their horizons, like tours to the United Kingdom, South Korea, Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan, Beijing etc. 6. Elite and Remedial Classes are provided for junior form students, tutorials for senior form students after school and during long holidays. 7. We participated in the School-based Support Service in Chinese Language, Mathematics and STEM Education. We have hire more Student Guidance Teachers (SGT) to cater for students with special educational needs (SEN). 8. Our school actively collaborates with different professional organizations in order to provide students with high-quality education. Our English Department successfully participated in the Teach Unlimited Foundation Mentorship Programme this year. Two Program Mentors are assigned to support our students at school. 9. We took part in the EDB ‘Wi-Fi 900’ Scheme. There is Wi-Fi coverage in the whole school. We purchased tablet computers and implemented e-learning in different subjects in several stages.

Curriculum highlights: 2.1 In junior forms, the curricula of Chinese, English, Mathematics and Integrated Science are tailored. 2.2 School-based STEM Education, The Project-based Learning Curriculum and the school-based Cultural Subjects Collaboration are implemented. 2.3 Chinese Language Curriculum for NCS students: Our school allocates students to different classes according to their abilities and designs school-based Chinese teaching materials of different levels so that the needs of NCS students can be catered.

Development of the Four Key Tasks:
1. Read to Learn: Implement a whole-school activity - "One Teacher One Book" Campaign and share books with students through morning assemblies, Read & Discuss, book fairs and short videos. Organize exhibitions regularly to introduce feature writers and books and invite authors to conduct sharing at school. Reading periods arranged for Chinese and English, peer reading, self-directed reading, "A Text A Day" Reading Scheme, Star Author Reading Scheme etc. Optimize the reading environment by opening a new and unique Bookcrossing Room to let students 'enjoy reading and have fun'. 2. Moral and civic education lessons are implemented to inculcate students with proper attitude and values. 3. A Computerized Art Room, a Computerized Design & Technology Room, a STEM Education Resources Centre which are unique in our district. The most advanced digital system for Campus TV, Space Theater, distance learning classroom have been installed. 4. Wifi network and Apple TV devices have been set up in the entire school for e-learning.

Life Planning Education:
1. Receive subsidy from "Project We Can" to implement various projects. Provide rare opportunities for business-school cooperation, let students experience the workplace environment. 2. Sponsored by ‘CCC Charity Fund’, we offer the Scholarship for ‘Let Me Shine’ Scheme, teaching and helping students to set up goals and provide positive encouragement. 3. Invite representatives from different companies and industries to give job sharing sessions. 4. Organize tour for students to visit different government agencies and companies, organize job experience events, students can better understand the values of work through direct participation. 5. Arrange Mock Exam Results Release and different interview workshops in order to prepare students in pursuing further studies and finding jobs. 6. Organize visits to Overseas Study Expo and invite speakers from overseas universities to introduce their programmes in order to inform students the different options for pursuing further studies. 7. We organized different overseas universities study tour. We led our students to visit different quality education institutions.

Student Support

Whole School Approach to Catering for Learner Diversity:
1. 'Star of YY3' programmes are implemented in various forms to help the students to achieve better academic results, with entering into university as the ultimate objective. 2. Our school participates in the thematic network - Serving students with dyslexia: Reading and writing strategies, a project launched by The Education University of Hong Kong, to fully enhance teaching and learning strategies in catering for students’ diversities. In addition, each subject made various distinctive supporting plans to fit in with students’ academic needs, including curriculum tailoring, assignment and test adjustment and interdisciplinary cooperation, which effectively cope with students’ differences and diversities, and improve the integral teaching efficiency.

Whole School Approach to Integrated Education:
1. We assist students with special educational needs for whole-person development, providing support in making plans in the early stage, further studies and work. Besides, various interest classes are opened to develop students’ potential to the full. The career-oriented courses are set up, providing skills and knowledge and assisting students to get to know different information and paths to careers and further studies. 2. Students (including non-Chinese speaking students) with special educational needs are supported with assessment and professional trainings, including speech therapy, occupational therapy, IEP and interdisciplinary meetings. Additionally, we work with educational psychologist and professionals to hold workshops and provide support to parents and teachers. In this way, we enhance the strategies and skills in taking care of students with special educational needs.

Home-School Co-operation:
1. The Parent-Teacher Association of our school has been awarded the ‘Q-mark Certificate of Commendation’ by Committee on Home-School Co-operation to commend the effectiveness of our school and parents cooperation.
2. Parent-Teacher Association provides scholarships for encouraging students with excellent results and improvement in academic.
3. Parent-Teacher Association offers different types of parent-children activities, interest classes and talks for parents and organizes parents’ volunteer team.
4. Parent-Teacher Association offers services like flu vaccination service, family fun day, summer tutorial classes and scarfs knitting charity event.
5. Parent-Teacher Association organizes the Appreciating teachers’ activities to support teachers and embrace the spirit of Home-School Cooperation.

School Development Plan:

Teacher Professional Training and Development:
Our school focuses on the continuing professional development of teachers. We provide various training programmes for newly-joined teachers, in-service teachers and teachers aspiring for promotion according to the EDB’s ‘Professional Ladder for Teachers’ in order to foster a team who is dedicated to learning and progress. The programme includes:
1. We have “Teacher Mentorship Programme”, “Peer Lesson Observation”, “Learning Circle”, “Teaching Effectiveness Questionnaires” to enhance professionalism.
2. In order to broaden teachers’ horizons, we organize Staff Development Day three times a year.
3. To encourage life-long learning and to pursue further education, we have organized Overseas Educational Visits to Beijing, Shanghai, Suzhou, Singapore, Taiwan and Guangzhou etc.
4. We have been invited by Education Bureau for sharing our excellence, as we have mature professional development system.

Life-wide Learning (including Five Essential Learning Experiences to be provided through Key Learning Areas, extra-curricular activities, co-curricular activities, etc.):
1. There are about 50 Clubs and Interest Groups. They are categorized into: Academic, Service, Interest and Physical Education. The Clubs and Interest Groups with special features are Rowing Team, Cycling Team, Juggling Club, Magic Club, Band, Beatbox, Taekwondo Club and Rope Skipping Club. For Service Groups, there are Air Cadet Corps, Civil Aid Service, Girl Guides, Community Youth Club & Social Service Team, etc. Most of the activities are held by professional tutors and instructors; Other Learning Experiences (OLE) Periods are included in the curriculum in order to help implement the New Senior Secondary Curriculum.
2. Invited to participate in the “Sports Legacy” Scheme, arranging the athletes form the Hong Kong Athletic Team to train the School Athletic Team regularly.

Others

1. Education Bureau (EDB) has undertaken the third External School Review (ESR) of our school in 2017. Following the previous ESR report, our school received excellent comments from the EDB. Our school has performed excellently in the four main domains including School Sustainable Development, Student Performance, Learning and Teaching, School Ethos and Student Support. This has definitely confirmed the efforts and achievement of our teachers and students.
2. Since the founding of the school, 15 teachers have received excellent and outstanding teacher awards. In 2019, the school received the 15th Anniversary Outstanding School Award by The HKFEW. Many teachers have taken up posts in different education organizations and professional bodies.
3. In recent year, the school attained outstanding Value-added Performances in HKDSE Examination, and many students got an offer in JUPAS.
4. Achieved excellent result in General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) Examination (Chinese Language). On average, the percentage of attaining level 7-9 is over 90%.
5. A number of students have excellent performance in various sports including rowing, basketball, football, dragon boat, Cricket and Rope-skipping. They successfully become the member of Hong Kong Team or Hong Kong Youth Team and represent Hong Kong to participate in overseas international competitions.
6. In recent years, our school focuses on the development of the performing extra-curricular activities, and provides numerous performing platforms for students to practice what they learned.
