Orientation Activities and Healthy Living

Every year before the school year starts, an orientation programme is offered to new students and their parents, and a bridging programme is tailor-made to consolidate the learning foundation skills of new students. In October, Parents’ Night is to be held so that class teachers will meet parents to share information and foster better communication. S.1 students have to take part in “One Student One Service Scheme” so as to promote their athletic and aesthetic development and to nurture the spirit to serve others. S.1 and S.2 students must stay in school for lunch. Apart from providing healthy food, we also promote a healthy diet. The school stresses healthy living through disseminating messages on healthy lifestyle and encouraging students to attend healthy activities.

All classrooms, special rooms and the school hall are well-equipped with Wi-Fi network and multi-media teaching facilities to enhance learning and teaching effectiveness. To provide a quiet and comfortable learning environment, all indoor areas are air-conditioned. There are STEM Lab, Learning Commons, MMLC, ITLC, CAP/CAM Lab, Liberal Studies Room and a Careers and Life Planning Resource Centre, we will also set up a multi-purpose student activity room ─ XR Studio Extended Reality Based Fitness Training Center to cater for students’ learning needs in different key learning areas.

School's Major Concerns:

School Management Organisation:
Our School Management Committee was set up in 2000 and is responsible for policy making and monitoring. The committee’s key concerns are to effectively implement the school’s policies and enhance the effectiveness of teaching. To align closely to the senior secondary curriculum, there is a coordinator responsible for each Key Learning Area. The Policy Board is set up with experienced teachers. This structure enables the planning and implementation of policies for the future development of the school.

Learning and Teaching Plan

Whole-school Language Policy:
1. Our school emphasizes the development of biliterate and trilingual literacy of our students. The 'Project WeCan' programme provides extended English learning activities for our students, which creates an English-rich learning environment for them to enhance their English proficiency.
2. Our school offers split classes. Students are grouped according to their English proficiency in junior forms. Teaching materials and assessments are also tailor-made to help them build their confidence in learning English. Our split classes policy are extended to senior forms in Chinese, English and Maths.

Learning and Teaching Strategies:
1. We are developing our school-based STEM Education. We aim to strengthen students' creativity, collaboration, and problem-solving skills through various activities. We are dedicated to promoting STEM education in primary schools, too. The newly constructed STEM Lab provides students with cutting-edge facilities and equipment to promote self-learning through cross-curricular activities.
2. With the successful application for the Quality Education Fund, our school has launched two projects: (1) Hydroponics is a kind of soil-free planting method. As students are introduced to the world of hydroponics, they can experience the entire plant growth cycle. Students can learn the relevant concepts and the scientific theories behind. Integrating science in everyday life, we hope to cultivate the value of universal benevolence. (2) The Chinese Language and Design and Applied Technology Department have received funding to support students to learn AR and VR technologies. Students are trained from both academic and moral aspects to use digital electronic technology to design and produce works with real-world effects of AR and VR through workshops and activities, so as to cultivate students' interest in creative digital media.

School-based curriculum:
1. Electives: 2X and 3X. We offer 11 subjects, with a total of 30 combinations for our students to choose from based on their interests and abilities.
2. Curriculum highlights: To maximize students' exposure, we provide “Other Learning Experiences” (OLE) for our senior form students. In the previous years, we exposed our students to learning experiences in visual arts, digital music, martial arts, career-planning workshops and related sharing conducted by relevant insiders .

Development of the Four Key Tasks:
I. Catering for learning diversity and enhancing learning and teaching effectiveness:1.In developing students’ language ability, extra resources are allocated to employ more teaching assistants and activity assistants. Different tutorials are arranged for high and low achievers accordingly. 2.Our school adopts the approach of continuous assessments. 3.To cater to different abilities, appropriate teaching approaches to enhance motivation to learn. 4.Cross-curricular life-wide learning activities, reading lessons and schemes and elite courses are provided for different abilities and aptitudes.
II. Using IT for Interactive Learning:1. IT is widely used in lessons to enhance learning and teaching effectiveness. Through the use of IT, we aim to maximize classroom interaction, students' self-directed learning, problem-solving and collaboration skills. 2.The installation of WiFi facilitates mobile learning. Students can easily use electronic devices to learn.
III. Nurturing values and personal growth:1.Our school has implemented a school-based curriculum to enhance students’ self worthiness.2.Our Life Education Committee, which consists of members of various teams, coordinates a range of student learning activities to boost students’ moral values and independent thinking. Through these activities, students’ confidence, leadership, responsibility and a sense of national identity can be greatly enhanced.
IV. Integrating and applying knowledge and skills across disciplines: With successful application for the Quality Education Fund, we plan to set up a Multi Purpose Activity Room- XR Extended Reality based Fitness Training Centre. The Centre not only strengthens the physical fitness of our students but also facilitate the development of physical activities. We endeavour to promote STEM education by integrating D&T knowledge in physical fitness adequate training. With the provision of equipment and space, we hope to enhance students' self-directed learning abilities.

Life Planning Education:
1. Setting up and optimizing school-based Other Learning Experiences curriculum. Inculcating personal qualities, positive values and attitudes, equipping students with knowledge and skills and motivating students to pursue their dreams. 2. Building up external relations and collaborating with external organizations to provide students with career-related experiences. 3. Recognizing students’ self-efficacy: a team of student ambassadors is formed and different award schemes are set up to encourage students with outstanding performances in life-planning.

Student Support

Whole School Approach to Catering for Learner Diversity:
1. Our school implements the "I Can Do It" Award Scheme, which motivates students to strive for excellence through appropriate and timely awards. In addition to commending students with outstanding academic achievements and conduct, this scheme also encourages students to set goals based on their personal aptitude, and ability in different aspects.
2. We endeavour to take a huge step forward in web-learning by setting up a Google Classroom for each subject in every class. Learning materials and assignments are continuously uploaded onto the platform, creating a rich learning database for our students to learn at their own pace.
3. To further develop students’ potentials, ‘challenge questions’ are specially included in the examination papers of core subjects of junior forms to invite students to probe into difficult issues and think out of the box.

Whole School Approach to Integrated Education:
1. Our school is committed to promoting Inclusive Education and establishing an inclusive culture. We adopt the whole school approach to provide comprehensive support for students with SEN. The SEN team is responsible for planning, implementing and evaluating the whole school approach to integrated education. The team includes the SENCO, SENST, class teachers, counsellors, school social workers, 6 teaching assistants and activity assistants as well as an educational psychologist.
2. We adopt a three-tier support model to realize the policies and strategies towards students’ learning needs. Through developing students’ multi-intelligence as to help them find a joyous school life, they will be set on their way to choose their career paths based on their ability and dream.
3. We also use the Learning Support Grant to hire a multi-disciplinary professional team to provide appropriate support to students in need.
4. Over the years, quite a number of our SEN students have been winning awards in various areas. They have proudly made themselves role models among their peers and ushered a learning atmosphere in which mutual respect and appreciation precipitated.

Home-School Co-operation and School Ethos

Home-School Co-operation:
1. Our Parent-Teacher Association was established in 1994 and has become an important bridge between the school and parents.
2. S.1 student-parent orientation is organized to introduce our school to parents.
3. A wide range of parent education activities are organized to inform parents about the recent education trends.
4. Through the parent-teacher annual meetings, parents can learn more about students’ performance and learning progress, which facilitates home-school operation.
5. Parents’ Day and Academic Achievement Ceremony are held right after the Half-yearly Examination so that parents can discuss students’ performance with their class teachers. For those who achieved remarkably, their parents will be invited to attend the ceremony to show support and encouragement.
6. Parent-teacher activities were held to promote communication between parents and school.
7. By inviting parents to join our school events such as the Swimming Gala, Athletic Meets, Annual Prizegiving Ceremony and Open Day, parents can have a deeper understanding about the school.

School Development Plan:
The two major concerns of the School Development Plan for 2021-2024 are:
Major Concern 1: Enhancing students’ learning motivation
One of our major concerns in 2021-2024 is enhancing students’ motivation in learning. We aim to enhance their learning motivation in four major ways:
1. to unleash students’ potential by providing them a conducive learning environment
2. to encourage self-directed learning by using online resources or e-learning platforms
3. to enhance their confidence and motivation in learning by implementing an engaging and adaptive curriculum with assessments
4. to implement effective learning and teaching through enhancing professional dialogues and developments

Major Concern 2: “Be grateful in etiquette Culture”
Starting from 2021, the school has implemented a three-year development plan with the theme of “Be grateful in etiquette Culture”, which aims to encourage students to learn Chinese culture and cultivate moral education. Highlights of the plan include:
1. Cultivate gratitude education, such as participating in the “My Pledge to Act” programme, morning assembly, reading class, class period and various activities etc., infiltrate moral elements and cultivate the spirit of gratitude among students.
2. Students can learn about traditional Chinese etiquette culture and study the connotation of etiquette culture through curriculum, activities, field trips and overseas exchanges.
3. Students experience traditional art through interesting art courses and Chinese Culture Week activities. It arouses interest in learning Chinese culture and appreciates the fascination of Chinese culture.

Teacher Professional Training and Development:
Through teachers' joint school professional training, cross-curricular collaboration, research and sharing of teaching experiences, teachers' professional knowledge can be enriched. Learning and teaching can also be strengthened when teachers are with support and work as a team.

Life-wide Learning (including Five Essential Learning Experiences to be provided through Key Learning Areas, extra-curricular activities, co-curricular activities, etc.):
1. In pursuit of our aim to enhance students' learning experience, we expose them to a wide range of learning experiences such as cross-curricular and life-wide learning activities, enhancement courses, “One-Student-One-service Scheme” and other activities of similar kind. By doing so, we hope to broaden our students’ horizons and unleash their potential. This year, the Fencing Society, which was established with the strong support of the Alumni Association, aims to enhance the potential of students, and is particularly popular with students.
