Learning and Teaching Plan

Whole-school Language Policy:
English is used as the Medium of Instruction for all academic and cultural subjects, except for Chinese Language, Chinese History and Life Education. Putonghua is used as the Medium of Instruction for Chinese Language and Chinese History. As language is the tool to all learning, accessibility and creativity, language progression is vastly cultivated in our school through many ways: implementing morning and lunch reading sessions; integrating debate, drama and literature elements into the language curricula; organizing activities such as exchange programmes with overseas schools; hosting inter-house drama, debate and public speaking contests; inviting international artists, athletes and professionals from around the globe to give talks and exchange with our students. These activities help raise literacy standards by providing pupils with rich learning experiences.

Learning and Teaching Strategies:
Language permeates the whole curriculum both as a vehicle for learning and as an object of study in its own right. The school aims at cultivating our students' interest in reading and writing, which is one of the key components for students to excel in learning. Every teaching staff, irrespective of their subject areas, shall promote literacy with due emphasis on text-attack skills and good reading behaviour, using writing frames to help students scaffold their writing skills. Teaching children about making, presenting and responding to drama is one of our system approaches in curriculum development that will lead to a fun learning process and open up new possibilities for developing children's literacy. Our school curriculum, structured to maintain both breadth and balance, is catering for students' different needs, abilities and interest. In order to build on the excellent achievement of a "through-train" school, with its affiliated primary school in developing a learning platform on Information Technology, teachers of the 'through-train' schools exchange and discuss regularly on issues relating the smooth transition between primary and secondary school curriculum.

School-based curriculum:
1. Electives: 2X and 3X. Mathematics (Extended Part Module 2), Chinese Literature, Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Information and Communication Technology, Geography, Economics, Business, Accounting and Financial Studies, Chinese History, Technology and Living, Music, Physical Education, Visual Arts
2. Curriculum highlights: Diversified school-based programmes that aim to enrich learning through authentic experiences, are offered to cater for students' academic, personal, social and developmental needs, viz. Off-shore Exchange and Study Tour, Biotechnology for junior secondary students.

Development of the Four Key Tasks:
Our Academic Board and Pastoral Care Board are responsible for the planning, implementing, coordinating and the quality assurance of the 4 Key Tasks of reading to learn, information technology for interactive learning, project learning, moral and civic education. An annual report should be submitted to the Senior Management Team by the end of each year.

Life Planning Education:
Our mission is to assist students to understand the process and importance of career and study planning in the school life, to help students develop their capacities to determine and reach their academic and careers goals, and to guide each student to develop student’s learning profile since their junior forms. In order to equip students, we have a comprehensive career and life planning programs align with a goal setting exercise for S1-S6 students. There are different focus and tasks for each form of students. We believe that it is important to introduce the life planning in junior forms. When they prepare their profile, they could have more understanding on themselves and the society, as the world is changing fast. Senior form students should understand his or her interests and abilities before making important decisions. Guidance is provided to assist students to formulate their plans.

Apart from offering service to the library on a regular basis, parent volunteers also assist in school functions such as Sports Day and Games Day. The Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) serves as a bridge to strengthen the communication in building up a mutual support network for a better learning environment and school development.
