Orientation Activities and Healthy Living
We have a wonderful summer bridging programme to let our students have fun, learn and excel.
To help S.1 entrants adapt to the new learning environment, summer bridging programmes such as study skills workshops, English and Math bridging courses are organized. The teaching materials used in the bridging programmes are in line with the key learning focuses of various subjects, which can facilitate students’ learning.
S.1 Orientation Camp is held during the summer by the Student Counselling Unit each year. A wide range of activities are arranged by senior form students to familiarize the new students with the school environment, to build a sense of belonging to their own class and to let them experience the care and concern culture of the school. Besides, through the orientation activities, S.1 parents can have a deeper understanding of the school life and expectations of the school. To help students establish a healthy lifestyle, seminars and workshops on building good habits, anti-drug education and sexual education are arranged. Moreover, the school has launched Personal Growth Record Scheme and students are encouraged to take part in uniform groups as well as other training activities at their leisure time. The school has well-established administration and management framework. Our Incorporated Management Committee (IMC) consists of sponsoring body managers, the principal, teacher managers, parent managers, alumni manager and independent manager. They work closely in formulating school’s policies as well as planning and managing financial and human resources of the school. Whole-school Language Policy:
Since 2010/11, English has become the medium of instruction. Students take the DSE of the following subjects in English: English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, History, Geography, Information & Communication Technology, Economics, Business, Accounting & Financial Studies, while the following subjects in Chinese: Chinese Language, Chinese History, Chinese Literature, Liberal Studies and Visual Arts.
Learning and Teaching Strategies:
Our school stresses on the importance of academic excellence which enables students to be highly competitive in different pathways and be capable of realizing their dreams. Besides, equal emphasis has been put on the moral development of students. Positive values and attitudes are instilled into the students through class teacher periods, Life Education lessons and activities organized by the Moral Civic & National Education Unit. We aim to educate students to be sensible, aspiring, and disciplined young people who can conduct themselves honourably and contribute to the well-being of society and humankind. To optimize students’ learning experience, the school has jointly organized activities with external organizations at lunch-time, after school and on OLE Days. The activities organized are of a wide variety such as Legco and museums visits, study skills workshops, creative thinking skills programmes, leadership training programmes, music and drama shows.
As reading is essential and beneficial to students learning, the school has put strong emphasis on nurturing good reading habits, especially among the junior form students. To promote reading and to help students to build a solid foundation, Chinese and English extensive reading lessons are introduced in the junior forms, extensive reading award scheme is conducted by the School Library, good books are shared at the morning assemblies and book fairs are organized from time to time.

1. Electives: 3X. A total of 11 elective subjects plus M1 / M2 are offered.
2. Curriculum highlights: Junior form curriculum: Focusing on building a solid foundation and life-long learning skills of students. To enhance students’ language proficiency, school-based English curriculum of Literature in English and Dramatic English are provided, while our school-based Chinese curriculum puts strong emphasis on Classical Chinese with training on writing and poem recitation. In addition, students are equipped with a variety of learning skills; for instance, promotion of STEM education In S2 and development of students' high order thinking skills in S.3. Moral and valued education is strengthened through Life Education curriculum and class teacher periods.
Senior form curriculum: A total of 11 elective subjects plus M1/M2 are offered. Apart from strengthening students’ self-directed learning skills by pre-lesson preparation and daily revision, various subjects also make efforts in developing students’ high-order thinking skills.
Development of the Four Key Tasks:
Our school provides a well-balanced curriculum to facilitate all-round development of the students. To address the school’s major concerns as well as the needs of the students, the school has put strong emphasis on generic skills training of the junior form students in order to strengthen their knowledge and to establish good learning habits. The development stages of the junior form are as follows: S1: Establish learning habits and master basic learning skills. S2: Conduct interdisciplinary project learning, promote STEM education and foster generic skills. S3: Ensure coherence and continuity between junior and senior form curriculum, develop students’ high order thinking skills and strengthen career planning to facilitate elective subject selection. To cultivate students’ information technology literacy ability, IT facilities are upgraded constantly. Our classrooms are installed with up-to-date IT equipment, tablet computers have been purchased for the implementation of e-learning and online resources of various subjects are available for self-learning.
Life Planning Education:
Careers Guidance Unit provides diverse further studies and careers information as well as opportunities for students To plan personal development, set goals and realize aspirations. Career-related seminars and workshops, workplace visits, mock university programmes selection, mock interviews and sharing by professionals and alumni are arranged. Whole School Approach to Catering for Learner Diversity:
To cater for students' learning diversity, enrichment programmes. Programmes and remedical classes have been organized for students with different learning abilities.
In addition, Student Counselling, Students Support Unit and Moral, Civic & National Education Unit work closely to provide counselling, guidance services and to cultivate the concept of inclusion among our students. School social workers and the Educational Psychologist of EDB also play the role of supporting frontline teachers, providing professional assessment and counselling for students referred by teachers. Teachers actively participated in professional development courses to keep them abreast of latest resources and understand the needs of individual students to provide appropriate assistance. In teaching and learning, clear guidelines and requirements are set out in lesson observations and curriculum design and arrangements.
Whole School Approach to Integrated Education:
Our Student Support Unit consists of a SEN co-ordinator and counselling teachers who have received different levels SEN in-service training offered by the EDB. By utilizing the Learning Support Grant, various measures have been implemented to cater for the students with special educational needs, such as adapting the curriculum and assessments, arranging speech therapy and art therapy sessions, hiring a clinical psychologist, organizing social skills training group, horticultural therapeutic group and positive leadership training, participating in Autism support network and devising individual education plans. Moreover, the Student Support Unit collaborates with the school social workers and the educational psychologist in evaluating and offering personalized support to students in need. The Student Support Unit also keeps close contact with the parents to follow up the student cases and arrange related seminars for the parents.

Home-School Co-operation:
The school works closely with the parents and an effective partnership has been developed. To enhance communication, school news is disseminated to parents regularly through The Ringing Ten.
Parent-Teacher Association has been long-established. Co-working with our Counselling Unit and school social workers, the PTA organized parent education seminars and workshops all year round. Moreover, various leisure activities have been arranged to strengthen communication among the parents.
