Learning and Teaching Plan

Whole-school Language Policy:
To increase teaching and learning effectiveness, the school adopts Chinese as the medium of instruction. Cantonese is used in most lessons. However, we have never undermined the importance of English. Pui Ching adopts an advanced English curriculum so that students would have better education and career prospects. Each 3 regular classes are divided into elite, intermediate and/or remedial classes and are taught by 4 teachers. Besides, English textbooks are used in the subjects of Mathematics, Science, Information Technology and Liberal Studies (elite), so as to equip students with the skills to process English reference materials, so that they can learn better via the Internet.

Learning and Teaching Strategies:
Students are encouraged to learn how to learn and to learn actively with the help of IT. The school makes use of the information highway to usher students into the digital learning environment. We also try to create a learner-centred school setting by organising project learning and interdisciplinary learning schemes, so as to allow space for students to think and develop creativity. In order to develop students' reading interest and habit, the school launches extensive reading schemes for the Chinese and English subjects respectively. From S.1 to S.3, all subjects are compulsory so as to lay a good foundation for students. There will be various elite classes in different KLAs for the more capable students.

School-based curriculum:
1. Electives: 2X and 3X. The school provides students with Mathematics Extended Part Module 1 and Module 2 as electives.
2. Curriculum highlights: Provide a wider spectrum of courses in the core discipline and elective subjects. S.4 students can select up to three elective subjects and extended Mathematics module for Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education, while S.5 and S.6 students can select two or three elective subjects and extended Mathematics module.

Development of the Four Key Tasks:
Special administrative staff are appointed to co-ordinate each of the four key tasks. Life education, which centres around Christian teachings, combines moral and civic education. Life Education is under the official junior curriculum to bring up students as upright and respectable individuals. The school also encourages students to read extensively so as to increase their knowledge and language ability. Information Technology is adopted to facilitate global learning, mobile learning, collaborative learning and action learning.

Life Planning Education:
Our school is adopting life-planning education starting from junior forms up till senior forms. In junior forms we usually implement such education during life education lessons, while in senior forms we carry it out during life education lessons, class teacher lessons, extra-curricular activities and assemblies. Besides classroom activities, group and individual counselling and career talks, our school has been organising the ‘Life Planning Growth Camp’, evening sessions for understanding more about different career fields, alumni network programmes and visits to overseas tertiary institutions, etc. These activities aim to strengthen the self-concepts of our students, and assist them in exploring their own career paths and knowing more about their future prospects.
