Orientation Activities and Healthy Living

S1 students are provided with a Summer Bridging Programme, which aims to facilitate a smooth transition from primary to secondary education. School Management Organisation:
The school is governed by an Incorporated Management Committee with the participation of teacher and parent managers. The school advocates participative and professional management. This is evident from the easy access of the school data and transparent decision-making processes of school policies. With the implementation of accountability procedures for internal auditing and quality assurance, school practices are constantly under review and refinement.

We have put green life into practice. We opt for reusable utensils and encourage students to bring their own reusable cutlery for lunch. The leftovers are systematically collected for composting. The school also uses durable materials to decorate the classrooms and encourages waste paper collection.

Learning and Teaching Plan

Whole-school Language Policy:
To help students to develop their language skills, the school has adopted different and diversified strategies to improve learning and to cultivate a passion for languages. The school offers small class sizes to allow for greater interaction between students and teachers. After school enhancement classes are arranged to assist students in danger of falling behind and to give exceptional students an opportunity to expand their knowledge. In addition, the school has recruited two native-speaking English teachers and offers a wide range of English language activities and theme events, as well as competitions and outings that stimulate students' interest in English learning and develop their natural competitive spirit. In-class learning and the extracurricular activities that serve to complement each other create a rich English environment and provide more opportunities for students to practise English.

Learning and Teaching Strategies:
Learning and teaching strategies are formulated according to the curriculum objectives of the school. The highlights are:
1) Enabling our students to become biliterate and trilingual and improving students' communication and numeracy skills;
2) Emphasizing understanding and application;
3) developing students' appreciation of art and culture, rational thinking skills; unlocking artistic talents;
4) fostering students' knowledge of socio-political and economic development of Hong Kong, China and other countries;

1. Electives: 2X and 3X. Students usually take two elective subjects and the maximum number of elective subjects a student can take is three.
2. Curriculum highlights: Our school has offered Formal Curriculum, Pastoral Care Curriculum and Extended Curriculum to foster students' whole-person development.

Development of the Four Key Tasks:
1. Reading to learn: A guided Reading and Writing program is implemented and conducted by Chinese and English teachers once per week to improve students' thinking and reading skills. Cross-curricular reading develops students' deeper understanding of the subject matter.
2. Information technology for interactive learning: All teaching venues are equipped with computers and Internet facilities. Students use their mobile device (iPads) to facilitate their learning by completing online assignments, searching and evaluating Internet resources.
3. Project learning: Project learning implemented in junior History, Science and Geography curricula offers students valuable hands-on experiences and helps them gain more practical skills by analyzing data, writing a report, giving a presentation and collaborating with each other.
4. National Security Education, and Moral and Civic Education: To enhance students' sense of national identity and help students to develop positive values and attitudes, National Security Education, and Moral and Civic Education are implemented in Formal Curriculum and conducted in daily class teacher periods, weekly level assemblies, weekly national flag raising ceremony and weekly Personal, Social and Health Education lessons.

Life Planning Education:
Life Planning Education Team facilitates students' actualization of their academic and career aspirations. We equip students with skills to plan academic and career pathways in accordance with their interests, abilities and needs. The school provides an intensive life planning education and guidance services for students. Student Support

Whole School Approach to Catering for Learner Diversity:
Smaller class sizes combined with learning intervention strategies have been adopted in junior forms to cater for the diverse learning needs of students and enhance student learning outcomes. After school lessons for senior form are arranged to boost students' academic performance. Enrichment classes for S.4 and S.5 students are provided in the summer holiday to better prepare students for the HKDSE. A special learning programme is also designed to help students who do not meet promotion standards and to consolidate what they have learnt in the summer holiday. Differentiated instruction strategies are adopted to cater for and address students' diverse learning needs. The SEN team provides students with individualized support and education. Teachers actively take responsibility for their students' growth and development, taking the basic, advanced and thematic professional training courses on catering for diverse learning needs. A gifted programme is also provided to fully explore and develop the potentials of gifted students.

Whole School Approach to Integrated Education:
Our school has adopted a 'whole-school approach' to cater for the needs of students with special educational needs. Education Administration, Formal Curriculum, Pastoral Care and Career Guidance work closely to formulate comprehensive strategies, provide thorough support and timely assessments for students in need of help. Apart from regular lessons, numerous extra-curricular activities and courses for Personal, Social & Humanities Education are provided to develop the full potential of students with special educational needs. In addition, special examination arrangements, speech therapy, professional assessments from educational psychologists, and workshops on social skills and self-management skills are rendered. Moreover, career guidance and programmes about life planning are presented to different students with different types of special needs so as to offer extensive and all-encompassing assistance to every student in our school. The school has used the Learning Support Grant to hire extra teachers, counsellors and teaching assistants to make sure that students with special needs are well-supported.

Measures to provide adaptation for Learning and Assessment:
Appropriate formative and summative assessments tools and measures are adopted to monitor student performance and progress. There are two end-of-term examinations per annum, with uniform tests scheduled in between. Unit tests and quizzes serve as checkpoints for student skills acquisition and mastery. Criterion-referenced rubrics assessment, project work and performance-based tasks are used frequently to assess students' learning and performance.

Home-School Co-operation and School Ethos

Home-School Co-operation:
There are three major areas in home-school cooperation: Parent education which focuses on parent- child communication, parent volunteers and the Parent Teacher Association. The school continues to work closely with parents to build a learning community for the betterment of all concerned. To further strengthen these relationships and enhance home school relationships, the school's sponsoring body provides adult education in communication and information technology.

School Ethos:
The school adopts a whole school pastoral care policy creating a school culture based on the values of respect and positivity. All classes have the additional support of two class teachers. Motivational talks during level assemblies, Personal, Social and Health Education lessons, activities, workshops and cross-curricular learning are designed to develop the students’ values and sense of citizenship. The school emphasizes the importance of having a balanced and holistic approach to physical and mental development and encourages students to learn diligently and whilst striving for excellence.

Teacher Professional Training and Development:
Regular school-based staff development programmes are held throughout the year, inclusive of peer lesson observation and joint lesson preparation. The lesson observation, study and sharing sessions aim at enhancing the teaching effectiveness of our teaching staff. Also, teachers are encouraged to enroll in regular professional development courses, such as SEN teaching and using information technology for interactive learning.

Life-wide Learning (including Five Essential Learning Experiences to be provided through Key Learning Areas, extra-curricular activities, co-curricular activities, etc.):
The school and the sponsoring body use additional resources to sponsor students for sports programmes and cultural activities. We also encourage students to join different field trips and study tours so as to broaden their horizons. Various activities, such as English learning activities and outings, Chinese Culture Day, Science Week, debating competitions, dance and drama performances, uniform group training and school team practice, are held during lunch time, after school and on Saturdays to help students with different aptitudes and abilities explore their interests. The Student Union has been established with the aim of increasing transparency in school administration and fostering students' sense of belonging by organizing inter-school events, providing different types of services and welfare for students, and making constructive suggestions on behalf of students.

Others

The school provides students with a whole-person education and a balanced curriculum to develop their potential. Below are some of our students' excellent achievements in academics, creative writing and sports.

In English Language, a total of 26 students ranging from S1 to S5 participated in the 73rd Hong Kong Schools Speech Festival (English Speech). 21 of them obtained Certificate of Merit (80-89 marks) and 3 obtained Certificate of Proficiency (75-79 marks). 2 students were awarded the first runner-up and second runner-up respectively. In the HKCYAA English Writing Competitions organized by the Hong Kong Children and youth Arts Association, 1 student won the competition, 2 students achieved the First Runner-up and 1 student achieved the Second runner-up. Also, five Gold Awards, twelve Silver Awards and ten Bronze Awards were awarded in the HKCYAA English Writing Competitions. In the COVID-19 English Writing Competition organized by the City University of Hong Kong, 2 students were awarded an Outstanding Award. Moreover, a secondary three student won a Merit Award in "Invest in Yourself" writing competition co-organized by the Investor and Financial Education Council, Hong Kong Economic Journal and the Education Bureau. Furthermore, a secondary three student achieved Champion in the 'From Player to Page Writing Competition' co-organized by Cicero Learning Solutions and Lancaster University.

In Chinese Language, 5 students obtained Certificate of Merit (80-89 marks) and 8 obtained Certificate of Proficiency (75-79 marks) in the 73rd Hong Kong Schools Speech Festival (Chinese Speech). Also, a secondary 4 student won the Second Prize in a writing competition organized by Hong Kong Love and Care Charity Foundation Limited.

In Science, 3 Secondary three students won a Gold Award and two Silver Awards in the Junior Secondary Science Online Self-Learning Programme sponsored by the Education Bureau. In addition, 4 secondary one students participated in the Hong Kong Youth Aerospace Innovation Competition co-organized by the China Aerospace Science and Technology International Exchange Center and the Hong Kong New Generation Cultural Association, and won the Second Prize. In Biology, a secondary 6 student was presented with the Merit Award in the International Biology Olympiad jointly organized by the Education Bureau and the Hong Kong Academy for Gifted Education.

In terms of music, a secondary two student won the Silver Award in the Junior Group Guzheng Solo Competition, and a secondary five student won the Silver Award in the Senior Group Guitar Solo Competition in the Hong Kong Schools Music Festival.

As for sporting achievements, in the Yuen Long District Inter-School track and field competition, students achieved the following: Second Place in the Men’s Group C 200 meters and high jump; Third Place in the Women’s Group A shot put and javelin, and 100 meters; Second Runner-up in the Women’s Group B 400 meters; and Runner-up and Champion in the Women’s Group C javelin and discus respectively. In the Yuen Long District Inter-School Swimming Competition, one student achieved Champion in the Men’s Group C 200m Breaststroke event. Another student was awarded Runner-up in the Yuen Long District Inter-School Men’s B Table Tennis Competition. In addition, a student won the schoolboys’ 3KM individual pursuit and Second Place in the 250m time trial at the Hong Kong track cycling event. Not only this, a secondary six student was selected for the Hong Kong Women’s Youth Beach Handball Team and in June she represented Hong Kong at the 2022 World Women’s Youth Beach Handball Championships hosted by the International Handball Federation in Greece. This student was also awarded the Watsons Group Hong Kong Student Athlete Prize.
