Orientation Activities and Healthy Living

Pre-S.1 Bridging Courses, Analysis of Learning Style, Orientation and Health Education Camp are held in July and August, aiming at helping students establish close relationships with teachers and cultivate a sense of belonging to school. Meanwhile, S.3 and senior form students participate in leadership training program to foster their team spirits and unlock their leadership potential.

Our school values the importance of leading a healthy life. Balanced diet and healthy lifestyle is taught through the formal curriculum of Home Economics, Physical Education and Integrated Science. Bearing the principles of environmental protection and nutrition in mind, lunch supply is decided carefully with the cooperation of Parent-Teacher Association. Apart from 28 standard classrooms, a small chapel, School Gallery, playground, English Corner, Chinese Culture Room, World History Room, Language Resource Room, Civic Education Room, Teachers' Resource Room, PTA & Alumni Resource Room, laboratories, STEM Room, Library, Innovation Technology Lab, 2 Multi-media Learning Centers, a gym room, Rooftop Green Garden, Self-study Room, an eCampus-TV studio and a solar power generator are provided. Our Annex provides an additional 10,000 sq. ft. learning area for our students. Waste Reduction Policy – practise 4Rs principles in students’ everyday living, conserve resources and reduce waste. Green School Policy – sustain the practice of being a green school, encourage students to participate in green living and promote the use of environmentally-friendly facilities. Environmental Education Policy - collaborate with NGO partners to promote environmental awareness. Learning and Teaching Plan

Whole-school Language Policy:
Our school’s language education policy aims at enabling our students to become biliterate and trilingual. Under the fine-tuned medium of instruction (MOI) policy, we make good use of the advantage of mother-tongue teaching to strengthen students’ high-order thinking ability. Moreover, approximately 15% of the curriculum in some junior form subjects adopt English as MOI to increase students’ interest, proficiency and confidence in using English. Besides, our school's annual English musicals allow students to develop their potential and build successful learning experiences. We have Putonghua lessons in Junior forms which promote students' daily use of the language. Our Overseas Exchange provides students with an opportunity to use English in an authentic English environment.

Learning and Teaching Strategies:
Teachers conduct professional sharing on how to design lessons that enhance students' learning effectiveness through collaborative lesson planning and lesson observation. Besides, our school has participated in Jockey Club "Diversity at Schools" Project and other support schemes which enhances our professional knowledge on catering to learning diversity.

School-based curriculum:
1. Electives: 2X. Our School upholds the spirit of providing students a wider choice of electives among Arts, Commerce and Science subjects.
2. Curriculum highlights: Our school always emphasizes the importance of students' learning foundation. In order to maximize the learning effectiveness, students are assigned to different small groups in Chinese, English and Mathematics lessons. With a careful design of a school-based curriculum and catering to learners’ needs, we believe that students’ learning motivation and confidence can be enhanced.
We have subjects like Business Fundamentals, Information Technology, STEM and Life & Society to help our junior form students bridge the gap to the senior form curriculum.

Development of the Four Key Tasks:
Catering Learners' Diversity: small class teaching and ability-grouped classes are introduced in Chinese, English and Mathematics to strengthen students' foundation and knowledge. Educational trends and development: collaborative learning, e-learning and interdisciplinary field trips are some of the key projects of our school to enhance teaching and learning effectiveness. Moreover, we have joined the Fourth Strategy on IT in Education to develop e-learning and STEM in our school. The use of tablet computers has been introduced to further establish a better e-learning platform. Learning through reading: Besides the school library, each class has its own class library to facilitate morning reading time. Moreover, talks delivered by writers, book fairs and Reading Week are organized to cultivate a reading culture. Reading Across Curriculum (RAC) has been introduced in both junior and senior forms so as to help students achieve extensive reading. Moral and Civic Education: We share the common goal of 'Love thy community as thyself'. Apart from regular school lessons, students will participate in visits, field trips, talks by celebrities so as to understand the development of Hong Kong, China and the world from different perspectives. Gifted Education: During these years, 96 students have been admitted to the Hong Kong Academy of Gifted Education. They joined the Enrichment Programmes for professional training in Maths, Science, Leadership and Humanities.

Life Planning Education:
Our Careers and Life Planning Committee provides various activities, including 'Self-awareness Workshop' in S.1, 'My Dreams' in S.2, ‘Elective Selection for NSS' in S.3, ‘Future Planning and Career Orientation’ in S4, ‘Goal-setting for further studies and career’ in S.5 and ‘Equipping for further studies and vocation’ in S.6. To help our students have a good career preparation, our school works with different NGOs to provide a series of career planning programs. We carry out ‘Self-exploration Career Workshop’, 'Job Experiential Day', ‘My Dream Workplace’, 'Workshop on Interview Skills', 'Career Live', 'Let Me Fly', ‘Personal Career Planning Assessment’ and 'Life-planning Assessment & Career Guidance', etc. This year, we also introduce 'Career Experience Program' for S.4 & S.5 students to understand occupational skills and the latest information. Whole School Approach to Catering for Learner Diversity:
Our school thoroughly considers students’ abilities when reviewing and adjusting the curriculum. Teachers adopt effective teaching strategies and assignments that can address students’ learning problems or difficulties to boost confidence in learning. Besides, appropriate academic support is provided to cater to the needs of students in different forms. In order to help S.1 students easily adapt to the new secondary school life, we provide ‘Bridging Course', ‘After-school Tutorial Classes’ for Chinese, English and Mathematics, ‘Mathematics Olympiad Class’, ‘Visual Memory Skill Training Class’, ‘Reading Strategies Training Class’ to consolidate students’ learning and improve their learning ability. We also arrange ‘After-school Endeavour Class’, ‘Cream Project’, ‘Exam Skills Workshop’, and external mock exams for students to equip them well for HKDSE.

Whole School Approach to Integrated Education:
Our school puts strenuous effort in building a harmonious inclusive culture in the campus. Our school has Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO), Special Educational Needs Support Teachers(s) (SENST) and teaching assistants, with an appropriate allocation of resources, we provide SEN students with customized learning equipment and facilities. Besides, we provide diversified services, these include the collaboration among the educational psychologist, clinical psychologist, supporting teachers, school social worker, speech therapist, occupational therapist, etc. to assess students' learning needs and help students make improvements in their learning. Counselling and guidance team provide talks or workshops for parents and have a close communication with them so as to give essential support to students’ learning. We also arrange teachers to have SEN trainings in order to enhance their professional development. We value home-school collaboration and therefore have set up channels for communication so as to discuss effective support strategies with parents for each individual learner.

Home-School Co-operation:
To enhance the cooperation with parents in nurturing our students’ personal growth, Parents’ Day for each form is organized every school year. Regular phone calls and contacts are made by class teachers to update parents on their children’s school performance. Besides, various activities, talks and workshops are organized for parents in order to provide better support to our students at home. Moreover, we provide the most updated information to parents by e-notice and e-payment system for better communication.

Future Development

School Development Plan:
In line with the curriculum reform "Optimization of Core Subjects in Senior Secondary Schools", school timetable has been reviewed to release lesson time and give more flexibility to the curriculum so as to create space for students and provide more diversified learning experiences. Under the new plan, students can take ‘Mathematics Extended Part (M2)’, participate in ‘Other Learning Experiences’ (OLE), ‘Life-wide Learning Activities’, etc. during class time. In the school-based curriculum, we promote Cross-curricular Learning, Project Learning, Reading Across Curriculum (RAC), etc., allowing our students to become self-directed learners and broaden their knowledge in different subjects. To consolidate students’ learning and improve academic performance, numerous policies: Lesson Study, Collaborative Lesson Planning, Homework Policy, S1 Bridging Course, After-school Enrichment Classes, DSE Exam Skills Preparation Class, DSE Mock Exams, etc. are carried out each year. In recent years, the local university admission rate has continued to increase. In addition, we have offered Applied Learning which emphasizes on practice and theory linked to broad professional and vocational fields as an elective in our senior secondary curriculum.
Our school prioritizes the implementation of value education and continues to strengthen positive education. We provide different learning experiences related to value education in the curriculum to broaden students’ horizons. Life planning education is conducted in both junior and senior forms to help students understand their ambitions, needs, interests and abilities, so that students have a broader view of their future plans and career. In addition, the school has introduced a "Career Experience" program to let students understand the requirements of different industries, the nature of the job, and the required skills, so as to cultivate the character and positive attitude that students should have in the workplace.

Teacher Professional Training and Development:
The school upholds the belief ‘Our Teachers are Our Future’. We aim at developing a learning community that puts emphasis on enhancing the quality of curriculum design and the conduction of lesson study so as to enhance teaching effectiveness. Partnerships with Education Bureau and institutions, Staff Development Programs, Joint-school Open Lessons, etc. are held to encourage continuous professional development and further improve teaching quality. These recent years, our key areas are assessment literacy which caters to learners' diversity, e-learning, cross-curriculum field trips and reading scheme. Our Principal and teachers are often invited to share their professional teaching experience in other schools or other countries. Our school has been invited by the Education Bureau to be the "IT in Education Centre of Excellence (CoE)" for four consecutive years (2019-2023), providing professional training and support for teachers in e-learning.

Life-wide Learning (including Five Essential Learning Experiences to be provided through Key Learning Areas, extra-curricular activities, co-curricular activities, etc.):
Other Learning Experiences is a vital platform to help students gain successful exploration and diversified learning experiences. Our school ethos is to be simple and humble. We take a whole-school approach of having disciplining and counselling going hand-in-hand. "Duo-Class Teacher System" is implemented, teachers and students enjoy a harmonious and caring school environment. We received a special award from Hi-Five Student Engagement Award Scheme in 2019-2020 and Hi-Five Student Engagement Award Scheme Enhancement Award in 2020-21, acknowledging our effort in promoting positive relationships between students and teachers.
Our students are confident and happy, they are always willing to serve others. Students are very active in participating in voluntary work. In 2021, the school was awarded a 10,000-hour Volunteer Service Award by the Social Welfare Department.
We have a diversified junior form curriculum and emphasizes daily-life applications to enhance students' learning interest. The amount of homework is moderate, classroom interaction is fun and inviting. STEM courses and e-learning programs (IT in Education) are carried out to cultivate students' collaboration skill, critical thinking, creativity and problem-solving skills.
Diversified and numerous extra-curricular activities enable our students to unlock and demonstrate their potentials.
For five consecutive years, our school has received the IAIE (International Alliance for Invitational Education) 'Inviting School Fidelity Award' and we won 'Golden Fidelity Award' in 2019.
