The campus is well equipped with 2 halls, a mini-theatre and several special rooms such as the English Cafe, Mathematics Room, Computer Room, Student Activity Room, Dancing Room, Library, Self-Study Room, Religion Room, Fitness Room, Music Room, Music Balcony and Chinese Literature Room in addition to the original classrooms. All classrooms are equipped with air-conditioners, computers, projectors and smart interactive boards in order to provide a comfortable and conducive teaching and learning environment. Learning and Teaching Plan
Whole-school Language Policy:
Starting from 2010, English has been adopted as the medium of instruction for all subjects (except Chinese, Chinese History, Putonghua and Religious Studies). Passing average marks of Chinese, English, Mathematics and the overall average mark is the promotion criteria of students. To enhance the foreign language-learning environment, there are three NETs at our school, and we launch the after-school one-on-one online oral practice programme, with external English, Japanese, German and Korean tutors as coaches.
Learning and Teaching Strategies:
In recent years, active learning has been promoted. Through peer lesson observation, discussions and sharing sessions, teachers of each subject start to implement ways to increase student's participation in active learning. To better improve the learning and teaching effectiveness, our school has implemented student feedback questionnaires since 2019-2020.
Information and Technology Education is incorporated in lessons in order to enhance the learning and teaching effectiveness. Some of our teachers often use iPads in lessons to stimulate students’ interest in learning. “Decoding Aerial Shooting”, “3D Printing” and “App. Coding” projects are included in S.1-S.3 Computer lessons, aiming to raise students’ motivation to learn.
In 2021-2022 academic year, Maker Lab, Life Education Centre and Emmanuel will be set up to provide space for students to learn actively and improve their mental health.
School-based curriculum:

2. Curriculum highlights: Apart from the traditional disciplines, we emphasize on the development of students’ exposure. In junior form, Literature in English and S.3 Science Extension are offered. Teaching staff from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University are invited to teach Artificial Intelligence in our school, and the topics are Biotechnology, Big Data and Engineering Physics. In addition to Cantonese, English and Putonghua, coding is the fourth language of our school. As a Christian school, school-based Religious Studies (junior form) and Religious Ethics (senior form) are offered to foster students’ physical, psychosocial and transcendental well-being.
Science, Art and Language Enrichment Programmes (SALep) is implemented in S.1-S.2 since 2019-2020. Students will have SALep lessons during school time. S.1 and S.2 students are required to complete the compulsory modules, Chinese Calligraphy Class and English Drama Class respectively. From December onwards, students may select one elective module from 15 modules below: Japanese Class (Basic Level, Intermediate Level), Korean Class(Basic Level, Intermediate Level), German Class (Basic Level), French Class (Basic Level), Food Science Class, Personal Finance and Health Management Class, Chinese Calligraphy (Intermediate Level), Creative Cooking Class, Intelligent Home Technology, Responsive Web Page and Hybrid App Development, Mathematics Plus, Advanced English Drama and Aviation Technology. Some courses are taught by external tutors and all fees will be sponsored by the school.
Development of the Four Key Tasks:
In the past, students were guided by teachers in study tours and field trips in various countries, for example Japan, Singapore, the United States, Canada, England, France, Germany, Australia, Seoul, Taiwan and the Mainland, etc. They are encouraged to learn outside the classroom to enrich their life experience. Until now, our school has already formed sister school pairs with 18 overseas schools, and has even established the "Exchange of Visit Scheme". In order to enhance student’s participation, student representatives are invited to organize activities together. In the academic year of 2018-19, several exchange programmes were organized which included Taiwan Tunghai University Study Tour, Seoul Study Tour, Fukui Liberal Studies Study Tour, S.3 Beijing Study Tour, Lunghwa University of Science and Technology Taiwan Exchange Programme 2019, London & Cambridge Music Tour 2019, New Zealand Study Tour and USA Exchange Programme 2019 etc. Under the pandemic, from 2020 to 2022, our school continued to organise exchange programmes with sister schools from the Mainland and overseas, including Pinghu Donghu Middle School and Fukui Prefectural Usui Senior High School in Japan. Besides, our school also organised real-time virtual tours, like Real-time Virtual Tour: Exploring Sustainable Urban Living and Green Technology in Germany, and Real-time Virtual Tour: Exploring Ancient Roman society and life through the Roman Colosseum. Through interacting with the tour guides, who provided real-time, detailed explanation about the historical background, students could develop a deeper understanding of the places.
To familiarize S.1 students and parents with Christianity and Tin Yiu Life Lutheran Church, our school organizes the Education Sunday Service cum S.1 Blessing Ceremony every year. Students receive tremendous blessings from God, the church and parents.
Life Planning Education:
In the school-based life planning programme, through formal lessons and cross-curriculum activities like University Dream Flyers Programme, Life Planning Education lessons for senior form students, Odyssey to Universities, career exploring activities and information talks for students and parents, students are more equipped with the knowledge, skills and attitude to make wise choices in accordance with their interests, abilities and orientations; and are guided to integrate their academic or career aspirations with whole-person development and life-long learning.
Our school has established sister school partnerships with renowned universities from different parts of the world, including Tsinghua University (Mainland China), University of Aizu (Japan), J. F. Oberlin University (Japan), Konkuk University (Seoul), Lunghwa University of Science and Technology (Taipei), Tunghai University (Taichung) and University of Alberta (Canada) as of the academic year of 2021-2022. Under the School Principal’s Nominations Agreements with these sister schools, there will be 3 to 10 annual admission quota for our S6 students and successful applicants will receive an admission offer of a Bachelor's degree programme in their secondary 6. Some of these sister schools also exempt students from the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSE). Under the scheme of “Hong Kong Students Recommended for Tsinghua Admission”, our school is granted 3 quotas for nomination and Tsinghua University waives the tuition fee for successful applicants. J. F. Oberlin University provides a 50% deduction for tuition fee for eligible students as well.

YLLSS's Student Support Team is comprised of the Principal, Vice-Principals, Assistant Principals, the Discipline Committee Head, the Counseling Committee Head, the Career and Guidance Head, the SENCo, the Social Workers and the Educational Psychologist. Continuous assessments have been incorporated into a number of subjects and marks are used in the organized tests for junior forms, the Mid-term and Final Examinations. Guiding principles and procedures have been developed and implemented to cater for the needs of every student based on their individual differences and special educational needs (SEN). These include allowances made for attendance, homework, seating and special exam arrangement. The School also provides speech therapy, arranging groups for students to enhance attention, social skills and learning abilities.

Home-School Co-operation:
Gatherings among parents and teachers are held for different forms annually. For the growth of students, workshops are held regularly to improve communication between parents and children.
School Ethos:
Our school aims at rectifying students' minds and cultivating them in the name of God, providing a good learning environment for students. Mental health is one of our greatest concerns, therefore, we have implemented a number of programmes to provide individual support for students. We have organized a series of diversified programmes, such as “S1 S2 Leaping Programme” and “Stand By You Lunchtime program”. Group counseling and school activities are also organized to take care of students’ mental health and help junior form students adapt to school environment, including “Relaxing Lunchtime”, “Joyful Games Stalls” and “Happy Teen”. For S4 students, counseling activities are arranged to provide peer support to students with mental and academic needs. Additionally, we have Academic Prefects, a group of students with outstanding academic achievement, to provide academic assistance to junior form students in the hope of creating the culture of caring in the campus. In recent years, the School’s a cappella team, H.O.A. (Harmony of A cappella) was awarded the entire champion, the Best Performance along with the Best Arrangement in the Hong Kong International a cappella Contest. Honorably, our a cappella team was even invited to perform in "Hong Kong International A Capella Festival". The School’s handbell team was awarded “Handbell and Handchime (Secondary) Golden Award” in Joint School Music Competition and “Best Handbell Team” and “Handbell Intermediate Secondary: Golden Award” in Hong Kong Handbell Festival – the 14th School Handbell Competition. The joined performance by the handbell team and a cappella team got the “Creative Ringing (Open Group): Honours” in the Handbell Festival as well. Our school’s choir and a cappella team were also awarded “Choral Singing (Secondary) Golden Award” and “A Cappella (Secondary) Golden Award” in Hong Kong Performing Arts Festival Ensemble Contest.
