Our school will accept discretionary places. Our school will participate in the Secondary School Places Allocation System through central allocation stage (Applicable for admission to S.1 in September 2023 ).The school’s assessment criteria for S.1 admission is based on (a) applicant’s academic results (50%), (b) applicant’s performance in admission interview (30%), (c) applicant’s non-academic performance (e.g. ECA participation and community services participation etc.) (10%) and (d) Conduct (10%).

Orientation Activities and Healthy Living

S.1 Orientation Programme and S.1 Parents' Talk during summer (helping students learn through English) and S.1 English Bridging Programme facilitate adaptation to secondary schooling and EMI curriculum. Lunch on campus for S.1 during September and October further enables transition with suitable care. While S.1 Counseling Scheme helps establish support network, especially from peers and senior forms students, S.1 Self Management Scheme, S.1 Adventure-based Training, Supportive Groups and S.1 Life Planning Programme foster skills and capacity. School Facilities (for Supporting Students with Special Educational Needs)

The laboratories, computer rooms, visual arts room and home economics room have been fully refurbished. Air-conditioning has also been installed in the tuck shop, which can be used by teachers and students for group study. The new wing of the school campus has a new library, student activity room and conference room. The school campus installs a fiber optic broadband network, WIFI and IT facilities to support the implementation of e-learning. Since 2021-2022, the school has started to enhance the learning and teaching facilities in classrooms, installing electronic whiteboards and AV systems to further facilitate e-learning.

School Management Organisation:
School based management emphasizes team cohesion and collaborative decision making. Under the School Executive Committee are sections for pastoral affairs, academic affairs, general administration, Christian education , school planning and development and crises management, which oversee the work of different departments and subjects. With strong self-evaluation mechanism and commitment to improvement, school authority has joined EDB workshops for future continuous development. In the 2010 & 2019 ESR Reports, school operations and development were highly commended.

Incorporated Management Committee / School Management Committee / Management Committee:
Incorporated Management Committee established on 30th August, 2008. Members include professionals from various sectors related to education, Christian education, accounting, health care, administration, legal systems, etc. They have great contribution to the operations and development of the school.

School Green Policy:
Embracing the green policy 4Rs, the school especially sets up recycling facilities. All school members carry out environmental protection practices. School also works with the GREEN@COMMUNITY for holding recycling activities and related talks. Environmental protection ambassador team is established in each class to facilitate recycling and energy-saving activities.

Learning and Teaching Plan

Whole-school Language Policy:
English is the major Medium of Instruction (MOI) in HTYC (please refer to the subjects offered in 2022/23 and subjects to be offered in 2023/24 for details). Due emphasis is put on strengthening an English learning environment with English ready for use in academic pursuits and daily life situations. English debating, drama and puppetry training, musicals, and Language Arts activities have been developing vehemently, with students having remarkable performances and attaining outstanding awards. All subjects are taught in English except the Chinese Language, Chinese History, Putonghua, Liberal Studies, Citizenship and Social Development, Life & Society and Ethics & Religious Education, with the announcement, sharing and conversation in English, etc. Also, abundant resources work on trilingualism and bi-literacy. Reading habits, sound curriculum and rich language activities like debating, drama, writing, etc. all aim at effective expression and high-order thinking, English and Chinese alike.
Native-speaking English teacher employed. The annual English Week is the most valued highlight during which all students participate and enjoy.

Learning and Teaching Strategies:
School emphasizes the importance of "high expectations with love" for students' development. Individual tender concern accompanies high expectations for all. All-round education is marked with dual emphases on academic pursuits and personal development, underpinned by the spirit to pursue excellence and self-regulation. The "Study Targets Scheme" motivates students to aim high for their academic results. Learning effectiveness, self-management ability and self-assertion are stressed among all students. Guidelines from CDI, requirements from HKEAA, and students' abilities are considered in the curriculum. Teaching effectiveness is constantly reviewed and elevated through collaborative curriculum design, peer lesson observation and professional dialogues. Extensive reading for Chinese, English and other disciplines is secured with the Reading Log Book. Reading habits are always emphasized. Good Books Recommendation Scheme by HTYC teachers and students are very good encouragement, alongside morning reading, HTYC Reading Award Scheme, and other external reading awards district and territory-wide. Reading Club and reading workshops help elevate language proficiency as well. Book sharing also plays a very important part. For S.1-3, to stretch the varied strengths of students, there is a "performance grouping" arrangement in Chinese, English, and Mathematics to achieve more effective learning. Students actively participate in interschool competitions and international assessments, with outstanding achievements. Students with varied talents are recommended to Gifted Education programmes by EDB, HKAGE, and universities for suited training and development.
We have been making good use of e-learning strategies for innovative and interactive pedagogy inside and outside the classrooms. Bring your own device (BYOD) policy has been put forward from S1 to S5 in 2022-23. Electronic blackboards are installed in classrooms to further facilitate good learning.

School-based curriculum:
1. Electives: 3X. Besides 4 core subjects, students select 3 electives according to their interests, strengths and future planning.
2. Curriculum highlights: The senior curriculum aims at building a broad basis of knowledge to support further academic studies, mounted with a Gifted Education system to cater for the diverse strengths of the high-achievers. This is accompanied by abundant opportunities to make presentations which promote knowledge consolidation and experience sharing. All-round development is provided especially through school strengths such as Language training, IT education, music education and service opportunities.
3.Project-based learning (PBL) Programme for S3 students working collaboratively in groups applying IT and STEAM skills to design innovative products to solve daily life problems.
4.After-school Enriched IT Class Programme running advanced IT training courses for S.2 to S.5 students, helps to elevate students' competence and skills.
5.After-school Student Artists Training Classes are provided in painting, ceramic and glass arts and Chinese Calligraphy.

Development of the Four Key Tasks:
Strengthening values education which includes Moral and Civic Education, Environmental Education, Basic Law Education and National Education through various subjects (esp. Ethics & Religious Education and Home Class Period), activities, study tours, etc. Emphasizing Reading across the Curriculum (RaC) with individual, subject and cross-subjects reading schemes, reading sharing accompanied by a resourceful School Library with printed and e-resources, and various reading activities to promote learning to learn. S.1-S.3 project-based learning scheme followed by investigative study activities in senior forms. HTYC largely renewed IT and computer facilities to promote e-learning, together with BYOD policy and the installation of an electronic blackboard in classrooms for interactive and effective learning. HTYC is also selected by the Office of the Government Chief Information Officer as one of the eight pilot Hong Kong secondary schools from 2015/16 - 2022/23 which organize Enriched IT Classes to nurture IT expert students, for the development of Hong Kong.

Life Planning Education:
Life planning education is one of the key components in promoting whole-person development, with the objectives of enabling students’ self-understanding, personal planning, goal setting, as well as self-reflection and revision, and equipping students with the knowledge of various study, career and training pathways, work ethics and the working world.
Students are equipped with the knowledge, skills and attitude to make wise choices in accordance with their interests, abilities and orientations; and guided to integrate their career/academic aspirations with whole-person development and life-long learning.

Student Support

Whole School Approach to Catering for Learner Diversity:
The performance grouping system in Chinese, English and Mathematics and supportive groups for S1-3 are arranged to cater for diversity. Teachers adjust classroom teaching, assignments and assessments to facilitate adaptation at different paces. Self-management and self-regulation are emphasized --- goal setting, planning, review, adjustment are regular practices. The school also put great efforts to promote gifted education.

Whole School Approach to Integrated Education:
The School put efforts to guide all students in their studies and in their personal growth, upholding the notion of “High Expectations with Love”. A Special Educational Needs Committee has been set up, adopting the 3-Tier Intervention Model, to formulate guidelines and deploy resources to provide necessary support and care for students with special educational needs (SEN). Training is given to teachers in accordance with EDB arrangements to cater for students’ learning diversity.

Home-School Co-operation and School Ethos

Home-School Co-operation:
Close communication and good collaboration with parents and PTA. ‘Joyful Fruit Day’, Parents Talk, Parents Gathering/Workshop/PTA Picnic are popular activities.

School Ethos:
School upholding ”High Expectations with Love", HTYC students are encouraged to go “from precision to excellence”, and they carry the marks of being “Healthy, Tenacious, Young, Caring”. In the spirit of Christ, school aims at student’s all-round development, sound character, spirit of fellowship, and to prepare them to serve and to contribute. With this mission, school upholds value education and character building. Gospel weeks, Christmas services, Easter services, S.6 Thanksgiving Service, summer retreats, fellowships, cell groups, Best Conduct Award, HTYC Balanced Development Award Scheme - all join hands for the goal. Based on different activities of the “Add-Oil for Affection” Scheme, students are encouraged to make use of their subject-based knowledge to build closer relationships with their family members and make school life more fruitful. While schemes and projects address specific aspects (e.g. “Sunflower Scheme” calls upon alertness to and reflection on misbehaviour), yearly themes ring in a clear overall direction. Future Development

School Development Plan:
Academically, they are trained to apply study skills and learning strategies and master a deep approach to learning and have a spirit to conduct an in-depth inquiry. Holistically, students are nurtured to establish a commitment to the well-being of people and the community. Teaching effectiveness will continue to be the emphasis through professional team building and professional development while students are developed for the ability to learn for life: targeting mainly on serious and positive attitude in learning and self-reflection for continuous improvements.

Growth mindset and positive attitude are promoted. Students are trained to reflect, develop their potentials and strive for excellence. Different types of competitions, interflow and seminars are offered to broaden students’ horizons and enable them to serve the community as servant leaders. Care and concern for individual students penetrate all aspects of school life, with joint effort from all parties. A 6-year community concern scheme was launched in 2013 to establish in-depth understanding of needy communities, accompanied by related services to spread the Christian spirit of “More blessed to give than to receive”.


Starting from 2015-2016, HTYC is selected as one of the eight Hong Kong secondary schools which organize Enriched IT Classes to nurture IT expert students for the development of Hong Kong. STEM education has a long history in HTYC: in 2004, students were granted grand award in territory-wide competition with an “Easy Buy Chicken” electronic platform. In recent years, students have been awarded amiable prizes in computer applications design. HTYC will review and set new plans for STEM education to address the needs of the society. Special emphases will also be put on prevailing strengths of IT education, language education, music and social services.

Teacher Professional Training and Development:
The Professional Development Committee has been set up to coordinate matters regarding teachers' professional development. Various activities such as workshops and sharing sessions are arranged for echoing the School's Major Concerns. Collaborative teaching in subject panels, including collaborative lesson preparation, lesson observation, and post-lesson discussions, facilitates the formulation of teaching strategies and enhances teaching and learning effectiveness. The school also strengthens the managerial skills of middle-level teachers to foster school sustainable development.

Life-wide Learning (including Five Essential Learning Experiences to be provided through Key Learning Areas, extra-curricular activities, co-curricular activities, etc.):
Besides 4 Houses (Faith, Hope, Love, Grace), ECAs encompass Christian Activities, Regular Activities, interest groups and non-regular activities falling into 4 categories to provide diversified other learning experiences for students. Christian activities include junior/senior fellowships and cell groups. Regular activities are divided into Music (choirs, wind orchestra, A cappella Group and instrumental classes), Sports (swimming, basketball, volleyball, table tennis, cross country and fencing), Arts(design, ceramics and glass arts, digital and multimedia arts)and Uniform Groups(Scouts and Red Cross) and Academic groups. Interest Groups include Film Appreciation Society, Robotics Society, Japanese Culture Society, Dancing Society, Board Games Society, Gardening Society, Multi-media Creation Society…etc. Non-regular activities include Library Group, Social Service Group, HKAYP and IT Team. Student Union was established in 2015 December to further enhance civic education and student leadership development. Students are nurtured in global citizenship.

Others

All English and Putonghua subject teachers are benchmarked. A native-speaking English teacher is employed to enrich the language environment. The self reflection culture and English learning environment have been highly commended by the External School Review team in 2010. Students win a lot of trophies in external competitions, academic and non-academic.
