Orientation Activities and Healthy Living

1. To facilitate S.1 students to adapt to the new environment and school life, a series of “S.1 Orientation Programmes” will be organized in August every year. Those interesting courses include German Culture Programme, English Language Bridging Programme, Buddhist Programme, Music Programme, P.E. Programme, Art Programme, NCS Programme, School-based Adventure.
Programme, Sport Team Selection Programme, Counselling Programme and Seminar(s) for secondary one parents. Through different courses, parents and S.1 students can understand the school life and learn about various school facilities as well as rich learning resources.
2. Environmental Education and students' health are addressed with top priority. We adopt a whole-school approach to foster a positive and healthy lifestyle among students and staff. School Facilities (for Supporting Students with Special Educational Needs)

We provide a newly decorated English Learning Centre, STEM Room, Gym Room and Buddhist Meditation Room for students. We have 30 classrooms, more than 10 special rooms, 3 conference rooms, a School Hall, a multipurpose room located at Room 309, a Library (well equipped with I.T. resources), a Multi-media Learning Centre, 3 Computer Rooms, an IT Control Room, a Campus TV Centre, a Multi-Purpose Room and a lift. All the rooms are installed with air-conditioners, LCD projectors and visualizers. A self-directive learning center and a room named “Strive for Excellence” were furnished to provide students with a comfortable learning environment. Small learning groups will be held after school in these facilities with tutors' support. In addition, well designed worksheets, reference books and self-regulated learning programs are provided in these learning facilities.

School Management Organisation:
1. The School Administration and Development Committee is established under the School Principal to formulate and implement school policies. 2. All school policies are implemented efficiently by Learning and Teaching Development Committee and Student Growth Support Committee. 3. We formulate school policies with transparency and staff involvement. We have a fair and just appraisal system for evaluating the performance of all staff.

Incorporated Management Committee / School Management Committee / Management Committee:
1. Incorporated Management Committee was established. The supervisor and the directors of our School Management Committee communicate closely with our principal to offer professional leadership to the school development and provide timely and strong support for our school.
2. The school board sets up an exclusive email address for all teaching staff to strengthen the communication.

School Green Policy:
We cultivate students' awareness on environmental issues by integrating it into the formal curriculum and conducting extra-curricular activities. Meals are prepared instantly and distributed with customized portions in the school canteen so that the amount of leftovers and food waste can be reduced. Induction faucet, LED lighting system, real-time energy monitoring system, Grade 1 energy labelled air-conditioning system have been installed to conserve energy. Learning and Teaching Plan

Whole-school Language Policy:
Our school utilizes mainly Chinese as our Medium of Instruction. To elevate students’ standard of English, a variety of English activities and extended learning programmes are organized to create a language-rich environment.

Learning and Teaching Strategies:
1. The Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) policy has been set up for e-learning. iPad interacting electronic notes are well prepared to enhance learning effectiveness of students.
2. The "Dr. Stephen Chan Self-Regulated Learning Scholarship" has been established to award students with good performance in self-regulated learning. In addition, free tutorial classes are conducted after school to promote learning habit and improve students' academic performance.
3. English Drama Training, Morning Assembly Sharing and Reading Aloud Activities are conducted in school to motivate the interest of learning and build up students' self-confidence.
4. In order to improve students' ability in English communication, our school has employed two NETs so as to provide more opportunities for students to practice English.

School-based curriculum:
1. Electives: 2X and 3X. Senior form students can apply for Applied Learning (Mode 1 and Mode 2).
2. Curriculum highlights:
(a) A school-based "Business Study" course is designed for S.3 students, focusing on "Skills Needed in the 21st Century". It is also in line with the future global trends of society and education so as to equip students with a pragmatic and socially caring business vision to handle the future challenges.
(b) Buddhist Meditation lessons are established for senior form students so that they can experience peace of mind and achieve physical & spiritual growth.
(c) Free enhancement and enrichment classes are also held in all forms to consolidate students' learning skills and boost their academic performance in public examinations.

Development of the Four Key Tasks:
1. School employs about 20 supporting staff in extra (e.g. teachers, teaching assistants and general staff) to take care of students’ learning and personal development needs. 2. School puts lots of resources to develop IT facilities in order to promote self-directed learning and boost the efficiency of teaching and learning. 3. A six-year career education plan has been introduced to enable junior form students to understand their potential and aptitude; whereas senior form students can set their academic goals and career planning. 4. As a means to demonstrate students' potential and to encourage them to strive for excellence, all students can join different scholarship schemes. Through the processes of goal setting, planning, execution and reflection, this programme helps boost determination, planning ability, perseverance and reflective thinking of students.

Life Planning Education:
1. Career Planning Education has been designed for all students. Various workshops, visits, seminars and exchange tours have been organized to meet the different needs and interests of our students.
2. Our school has also established an "Education & Career Planning Office" archiving the related resources for providing useful career and education information to students.
3. Talks and Sharing Sessions are offered to students, parents and teachers regularly so as to promote mutual understanding on students' career planning.
4. In collaboration with The Hong Kong Polytechnic University and The Wharf Group, students are provided with internships in universities and at work place.

Student Support

Whole School Approach to Catering for Learner Diversity:
1. The "Student-centred" curriculum has been compiled for junior form students. Assessments consist of "core" and "extended" parts which help students learn from "small steps".
2. We offer different tailored free tutorial classes for students with special needs, non-Chinese speaking students and the newly arrived students after school.

Whole School Approach to Integrated Education:
Our school adopts the Whole School Approach to promote Integrated Education. A student support team is established. Led by the vice principals, the team consists of a coordinator (SENCO), two SEN support teachers and one counselor to assist the daily operations. Through flexible deployment of the “Learning Support Grant” and the eclectic use of other resources available in our school, our team strategically designs support programs for students with special educational needs. Our programs include literacy training, speech therapy, clinical psychological services and study skills training. The panel chairpersons of Chinese, English, Mathematics and Citizenship and Social Development are invited to be the academic advisers of our team. Their main duty is to cater for students' learning diversity through curriculum design, diversified teaching strategies, assignments and assessment adjustments so as to enhance the learning effectiveness of students with special educational needs. Our team works closely with the Education Bureau and the educational psychologist by having regular meetings and carrying out diagnostic assessments for students. We also invite parents to attend meetings to develop Individual Education Plans for students as well as monitor and review the measures so as to enhance their learning effectiveness. Our school has always valued professional development. We encourage teachers to attend SEN training programs and seminars so as to enhance their professional capacities of taking care of students with special educational needs.

Measures to provide adaptation for Learning and Assessment:
Students' learning diversity can be taken care of through measures like curriculum design, diversified teaching strategies, adjustment of homework and assessment in order to enhance the learning effectiveness of students with special educational needs. For assessment, some classes are provided with adjusted exam papers for Chinese Language and English Language to promote a supportive assessment strategy and effectively enhance students' motivation and confidence in learning.

Home-School Co-operation and School Ethos

Home-School Co-operation:
1.The Parent-Teacher Association was established to facilitate effective communication between the school and parents.
2. Thanks to the dedicating participation of the Chairperson and committee members of PTA, several scholarships and security allowance have been set up to assist students with their academic and personal development.
3. Parents are enthusiastic about participating in school activities and facilitating the school development. Workshops focusing on communication skill and interest classes are provided for parents.

School Ethos:
1. We dedicate ourselves to the promotion of a culture of respect.
2. Each class is led by two class teachers. We intentionally form a "Quality Circle" for class teachers of each form to discuss the matters of common concern like learning, behavioral and emotional problems through periodic meetings and collaboration.
3. With the implementation of form-based and school-based Award Schemes, we are able to promote an attitude of self-initiatives among students.
4. We have been awarded the “Caring School Award” from the Hong Kong Christian Service and Education Bureau for 12 years and “Excellent Caring School Award” in April 2010. In 2010, we won the title of “Caring Campus”. We were also awarded "The Best Home-School Cooperation Award" of the "Caring School Programme" in 2013.
5. Our school is an Inviting School. We have been awarded the "Inviting School Fidelity Award" from IAIE (US) for 14 years. We received "Gold Award" in 2017.

Future Development

School Development Plan:
1.To improve students’ learning efficiency and effectiveness, cultivate students' confidence and interest in using biliteracy and trilingualism, and consolidate students' study habits. To establish a preview culture, and enhance learning effectiveness by strengthening teachers' mastery of "e-learning" teaching strategies.
2.To help students develop a good moral and character. To cultivate students to know themselves and develop a sense of responsibility.
3. From 2021 to 2024, we have participated in Healthy School Programme and been granted around $1,600,000 for organizing activities related to personal growth education, paving their way towards a healthy and joyful life.



Teacher Professional Training and Development:
1. We are an invitational school, which regularly promotes teachers' professional development by exchanging with local and international educators.
2. By joining the learning circles of international organizations and schools affiliated with Hong Kong Taoist Association and holding internal learning circle meetings, professional development among teachers is promoted.
3. Thematic Peer Observation is strongly recommended. Teachers can share their experience and hence promote the effectiveness of teaching.
4. Our school participates in teaching and research activities held by Education Bureau and universities to further develop innovative and effective teaching methodologies.
5. To support new teachers with an orientation program providing a comprehensive and systematic set of tailor-made support work.

Life-wide Learning (including Five Essential Learning Experiences to be provided through Key Learning Areas, extra-curricular activities, co-curricular activities, etc.):
1. We have participated in "Project We Can", which is sponsored by The Wharf Holdings Ltd. Students can visit and work as interns in different companies and organizations under the scheme. Also, we have received support from Poly U students for organizing activities for our students to broaden their horizons.
2. Our school has incorporated "Life-wide Learning Day" into the regular curriculum, which is held on a regular basis on Fridays. There are about 50 activities including Dance Club, Lion-dancing Club and Sports Teams, Girl Guides and the Boy Scouts, which target at developing the multiple intelligence of our students. Students are provided with chances to participate in various free co-curricular activities with the school subsidy.
3. To strengthen the promotion of holistic education, we seize different learning opportunities and activity subsidies for our students.
4. Our school has continuously supported students to take part in study tour. Through joining local tours and virtual tours, students can take part in different cultural exchange activities with students from all over the world, such as Mainland China and Germany. By taking part in these activities, students can widen their horizons and have a better understanding on other cultures, enabling themselves to keep learning under travel restrictions.

Others

Scholarship:
Our school has actively found different resources and scholarships to motivate our students. Nearly 35 different scholarships and sponsorships are established for awarding students with excellent performances in different areas.
1. "Project We Can" Scheme awards a minimum of $100,000 to our Secondary Six graduates to subsidize the four-year tuition fees in local universities.
2. Scholarship for "Teaching and Learning" has been established to reward the students with brilliant results in the HKDSE Examination. The maximum amount of the scholarship is $10,000.
3. In each term, outstanding students and those who have got great academic results and have shown good conduct and behavior are granted "Chan Lui Chung Tak Scholarship".
4. Every year, 2-3 students who demonstrate resilience in adversity and maintain a positive attitude towards life and learning are awarded the "Upward Mobility Scholarship" from the Commission of Poverty. Each receives $5,000.
5. About a dozen of various scholarships like alumni scholarship and Parent Teacher Association Scholarship are offered to honor students with outstanding performance in both academic and non-academic areas each year.
Exchange Programmes:
1. Every year, the Yuen Yuen Institute subsidizes students of our schools and those from HKTA The Yuen Yuen Institute No. 1 Secondary School, HKTA The Yuen Yuen Institute No. 2 Secondary School and HKTA The Yuen Yuen Institute No. 3 Secondary School to have an exchange programme outside Hong Kong with the Yuen Yuen Institute Secondary School in Huadu District in Guangzhou to broaden their horizons.
2. We have formed a sister school pair with Yuxinzhen Middle School in Zhejiang to facilitate exchange for teaching and learning.
STEM Education:
1. The school has allocated a lot of manpower and funds in the development of STEM Education in the past four years. In the 2021 Greater Bay Area STEM Excellence Award, the school won the award of the top ten STEM schools and became the Champion of the secondary school category. With a strong scientific research atmosphere and excellent teachers, students can actively participate in STEM activities and competitions, and have continuously won external awards, which affirm the school's achievements in STEM education.
2. In addition to spending about HK$1 million to build a brand-new STEM maker room, the school successfully applied for about HK$1 million from the Quality Education Fund to revamp school-based STEAM courses in 2019, and created 17 content-rich teaching materials and lesson plans. We also share the results with all primary and secondary school teachers in Hong Kong. At the end of 2019, our school applied for the "Old Bus and Retired Bus Donation Scheme" launched by the Kowloon Motor Bus Co., Ltd. and successfully received a retired bus. The school has received a grant of $300,000 from the Wharf's "Project We Can" to turn the bus into a "STEM Research Base". It is now waiting for the approval of the Education Bureau to start renovation.
3. Our school has applied for funding from the IT Laboratory Program. In this school year, we plan to build an AI lab, displaying more AI works and enhancing the school's STEM atmosphere.
