Orientation Activities and Healthy Living

An orientation programme is held in August before the start of the school year. The school organizes a cross-curricular program entitled Healthy Week to promote the awareness of the importance of healthy life. The purpose is to help students develop a good eating habit, constant practice of physical exercise and the positive attitude towards healthy living. Both the tuck shop and the lunch supplier have to provide food which is low-sugar, low-salt and low-fat.

School Green Policy:
The establishment of our Conservation Unit aims at implementing environmental protection measures, including the reduction of energy consumed and the collection of waste paper in our campus. Meanwhile, with the adoption of a food waste disposer to nurture students’ awareness of conserving the environment, cherishing our resources and recycling waste materials. In particular, junior students are advised to use environmentally-friendly eating utensils and reduce the disposal of waste materials. Our students are also encouraged to participate in the Conservation Ambassador Scheme of the Environmental Protection Department. Besides, our school has been giving great support to the events organized by environmental organizations, such as Hong Kong No Air-Con Night and Earth Hour held by Green Sense and World Wide Fund respectively.

Learning and Teaching Plan

Whole-school Language Policy:
Our school is dedicated to cultivate competent language ability for our students; in Chinese and English language subjects, we will allocate more resources for our senior students by implementing small-group teaching based on student’s language abilities, in order to meet different learning needs among students. To create a better English language learning environment, our school has an ‘English Day’ every week’, ‘English Morning Assembly’ hosted by our students, ‘English Song Dedication’, ‘English Movie Appreciation’, and many other English activities during lunch time. Also, with the support from our school sponsoring body, one extra NET (native English teacher) and one English teacher are hired this year. Our school believes that through more speaking practices with the help of two NETs, and substantial manpower provided to English teaching team, a rich and effective English learning environment can be well established for implementing small-group teaching.

Learning and Teaching Strategies:
1. To enable our students to develop the life-long learning capabilities, encouraging our students to build up better learning habits and promoting the importance of learning autonomy is our priority. On top of designing different layers of assignments catering for different learning needs, our school will make use of e-learning tools to provide immediate support for our students to finish assignments at home.
2. To strengthen our students’ abilities to integrate and apply knowledge and skills to meet the needs of 21st century, our school will install a ‘STEM Centre’ in our campus and fully participate in ‘InnoDream Flyer’ to empower our students to use their creativity ingenuity and develop their creative thinking skills.
3. To evaluate teaching and learning effectiveness and give successful feedback to curriculum planning precisely and concisely, our school will introduce different digital analytical tools to study and evaluate some important areas such as curriculum design, pedagogy, and assessment. We believe the results will be useful for advancing our skills to design more plans to meet the diverse learning needs and interests of our students.
4. To support our school to promote cross-curriculum reading programme to whole school, our sponsoring body will provide funding to renovate our library this year. This transformation will bring a modern and welcoming place to attract our students to read, collaborate and interact in our library; therefore, student’s interest in reading will be activated.
5. To promote professional development among our teachers, inter-/intra-school professional learning communities are developed to boost the effectiveness of teaching and learning continuously.

School-based curriculum:
1. Electives: 2X. A wide range of electives from various streams including Arts, Science, Business, Technological studies and Visual arts are offered.
2. Curriculum highlights:
(1) English oral lessons for senior forms are conducted by 3 English teachers to provide students with more opportunities to practice and receive more personal feedback for further improvement.
(2) A school-based course on arts is made available in new senior secondary curriculum. 5 modules are open to students including Music, Visual Arts, Digital Arts, various types of Dances and Drama.
(3) S.T.E.M. elements themed ‘InnoDream Flyer’ are integrated in Technology lessons in junior forms to enrich students’ knowledge on Integrated Science and their abilities to apply it in daily life.

Development of the Four Key Tasks:
1. Civic Education lessons are conducted in both junior and senior forms. A wide variety of activities including talks, forums on social issues, social services are offered to students to help them build positive values and facilitate holistic development.
2. Positive education is advocated and highlighted to equip students with positive attitude and process happiness and good morals. Students are guided to unveil their own character strengths and unleash their potential.
3. E-learning is advocated to support self-directed learning at home in order to elevate students’ learning autonomy. Curriculum on Tech Ethics is particularly highlighted in Technology and Computer Studies to nurture students to be technologically responsible citizens.
4. Study tours are organized annually as eye-openers for students to broaden their horizons. Students are able to understand our motherland and to strengthen their national identity awareness towards China.
5. Cross-curriculum projects are emphasized to help students integrate their subject knowledge and apply it in daily life with flexibility.

Life Planning Education:
With the provision of effective life planning education and careers counseling, our students can acquire the knowledge, skills and attitudes they need, enabling them to make sensible decisions for their careers or further studies according to their interests, abilities and personal orientation while integrating career and educational aspirations into all-round development and lifelong learning.

Student Support

Whole School Approach to Catering for Learner Diversity:
The SEN (Special Educational Needs) Unit has been set up to implement the policy of holistic approach in inclusive education. Teachers have been given the right to devise the best teaching approaches and materials to suit the needs of their students. “Peer Guidance” has been carried out to help build up a campus culture with love and care so that students can lead a more harmonious school life. A series of programmes have been run in order to help students lay better foundation for further studies. These programmes include tutorial classes, after-school homework guidance classes and English remedial classes for the Newly Arrived Children.

Whole School Approach to Integrated Education:
SEN Care Team has been well established to help SEN students and launch integrated education in our school.
Our school promotes whole-school approach as most of our departments are involved in helping SEN students: Academic committee, Counselling and Discipline Committees, Career & Further Studies Committee, Extra-Curricular Activities Committee, Morale and Civic Education Committee and Exam Unit and so on, aiming to provide comprehensive care to students.
Except supports given by teachers, there are three student counselors and an English teacher (Special Education) to offer lessons and after-school tutorial lessons as well as counselling services to those who are in need of help.

Home-School Co-operation:
We are aiming at enhancing the partner relationship with parents, with the ultimate goal of mutual trust and support. Meanwhile, parents may develop the potential of their children to the full by participating in our quality parent education programmes which can enhance their parenting skills. In recent years, the school authorities have been forging parental participation in setting up school policies so as to get their support in our continuous development.

School Ethos:
Our school has developed a caring culture of ‘Discipline with love’. It is implemented by arranging two class teachers for every class, putting emphasis on civic education, and through the close cooperation between the discipline and counselling departments, we lead our students to grow in a supportive and positive environment.

Future Development

School Development Plan:
1. To implement e-learning with a view to attaining the twin objectives of reinforcing students’ basic knowledge and cultural literacy and enhancing their interest in learning and ability to undertake self-directed learning.
2. To implement STEM education in order to develop students’ spirits of exploration and innovation.

Teacher Professional Training and Development:
With the implementation of collective lesson planning and the workshops for teachers’ professional development, teachers are offered the chance to co-work together to draft lesson plans, conduct lesson study and establish the culture of peer lesson observation, with a view to developing the proper modes of teaching and learning to cater for learners’ diversity.

Life-wide Learning (including Five Essential Learning Experiences to be provided through Key Learning Areas, extra-curricular activities, co-curricular activities, etc.):
There are altogether thirty-eight clubs/teams concerned with academic subjects, sports, art and community services, including marching band, sports teams, Wu Shu Society and guitar band. The school authorities provide a favourable environment to enable students to have their learning experiences beyond the boundary of classrooms so as to attain the goals of all-round development and life-long learning.
