School Facilities (for Supporting Students with Special Educational Needs)

The school has a playground, a lower school hall, a hall, a library, a Multi-Media Learning Centre, computer rooms, a Language Laboratory, Science Laboratories including Physics, Biology, Chemistry and Integrated Science, a Chinese Language activity room, an English Self-Access Learning Centre, a Mathematics Corner, a Technology and Living Room, a Design and Technology Room. To cater for teaching and learning needs, every classroom is equipped with a computer, a screen, a projector and a set of audio equipment (Smart Blackboards have been installed in some classrooms). A religious room and a chapel are provided for students’ spiritual development. The school also provides a room for Parent-Teacher Association for administrative affairs and activities run by PTA. The school houses more than 340 computers and 200 ipads. There are over 35,000 books and audio-visual learning materials covering a comprehensive range of subjects in the school library.

Whole-school Language Policy:
(1) In junior forms, a majority of students learn major subjects in English except Chinese Language, Chinese History, Life and Society, Religious Education and Putonghua. In all junior forms, subjects taught in English in all classes include English Language, Mathematics and Science. (2) In senior forms, several subjects are continuously taught in English.

Development of the Four Key Tasks:
(A) Reading: 1. Emphasize reading to learn and run Reading Lessons in junior forms; 2. Implement Reading Programmes for the subject knowledge in not only Chinese and English but also other key learning areas; 3. Through a large scale book fair and varied reading activities to nurture students’ spirit of reading, buying, collecting and cherishing books. 4. All teaching staff participate in the 'Reading Man' broadcasting programme to promote the joy of reading. (B) Development of Language Across Curriculum at junior levels: 1. Collaboration between the English department and the other non-language content subjects to develop learning materials; 2. Professional exchange of teaching ideas through class visits so as to enhance teaching and learning effectiveness in English; 3. Life Planning Education:
In 2018-2019, the school has used the Career and Life Planning Grant to employ a full-time English teacher to raise the capability of the careers team. Since the implementation of New Senior Secondary Curriculum in 2010, the school has allotted more resources on buying services from non-governmental organisations such as the life planning workshops run by Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups, Hok Yau Club, and St James Settlement. The school has also been working with the Methodist Church of Hong Kong these few years to create specific career-related experiences for different forms. In the school, seminars on elective subjects, F.3 Parents’ Night and F.4-F.6 career lessons enable students to be informed of the latest developments of multiple pathways, local and overseas studies, and the job market. Career and Life Planning Committee (CLP) caters for the need of the diverse learners by inviting the Vocational Training Council and other tertiary institutes and professionals to set up booths on Parents’ Days to provide counselling services and updated information. The school also participated actively in Business-School Partnership Programmes provided by EDB and JJA to offer students more exposure to workplace environment.

Whole School Approach to Catering for Learner Diversity:
(1) A SEN Supporting Team is launched to look after students with diverse learning needs.
(2) Each subject adopts booster and catch-up scheme to cope with students’ learning diversities.

Whole School Approach to Integrated Education:
Our school has long cultivated an inclusive and caring school environment by offering a range of comprehensive support to students with special educational needs. A Special Educational Needs supporting committee consisting of a vice principal, an educational psychologist, a speech therapist, social workers, a counsellor, a SEN coordinator and the trained teachers and an assistant was established. Regular meetings are held on the supporting plans and strengthening the understanding of SEN students' needs and counselling services. Besides, committee members and other school teachers work collaboratively on working out study plans, supporting measures and evaluating students' learning progress. In addition, information on SEN is sent to teachers regularly. The pedagogies and teaching suggestions are shared in in-school seminars so as to strengthen the teachers' capacity in understanding inclusive education. Teachers are also encouraged to attend professional development courses and training workshops held by EDB. Besides the assessment adjustments, with the supporting grant, services on occupational therapy, reading and writing, social skills are also provided.
Our school also puts emphasis on the home-school cooperation, including a well-established mechanism in fostering communication and regular gatherings and seminars with parents, hoping that parents can understand more about their children and support their learning and growth collaboratively.

Home-School Co-operation:
(1) 2 parent representatives are elected to the Incorporated Management Committee;
(2) Parents gatherings and Annual General Meeting are held regularly to collect their opinions about the school;
(3) The PTA holds regular family activities and provides supports of various kinds to school activities;
(4) PTA holds “Good People, Good Acts” campaign, Most Improved Conduct Award and "Parents-Also-Appreciate-Teachers Drive" every year so as to cultivate among students the spirit of helping others;
(5) Parents serve as volunteers in academic as well as extra-curricular activities of the school.

School Ethos:
According to the ESR report issued by the EDB, the school was praised for having an austere school ethos, friendly and approachable teachers who showed great concern for the students, worked diligently and collaborated well as a great team. In addition, students were honoured for being well-mannered, highly disciplined and accommodating who exhibited enthusiasm in learning, good respect for their teachers and had good interpersonal relationship among their peers. The ability of the school to adjust to meet the needs of students in different stages of growth was also highlighted in the report.
