Secondary One Entrance

Our school will accept discretionary places. Our school will participate in the Secondary School Places Allocation System through central allocation stage (Applicable for admission to S.1 in September 2023 ).Our school is a Catholic co educational secondary school. Primary 6 boys and girls are eligible to apply for admission to F.1 from 3/1/2023 to 17/1/2023. Application requirements:
(1) Academic performance: 50%,
(2) Performance in admission interview: 30%,

Orientation Activities and Healthy Living

Orientation Activities:
(1) A Form One Orientation Day is held in mid-July for both parents and students to gain an understanding of the school life and build a bond with the school; (2) A one-week Summer Course in Chinese, English and Mathematics is available for students to help them adapt to their new learning environment from July to August; (3) A Form One Students’ Counseling Day Camp is held in September to cultivate class atmosphere and strengthen communication among students; (4) 'F.1 Peer Mentor-ship Scheme' is implemented to facilitate academic, social and personal growth of F.1 students.
Healthy Life: (1) Our F.1-F.2 students stay at school for lunch. The Catering Committee, comprising parents and teachers, is responsible for selecting the food supplier to provide students with healthy, nutritious and delicious meals; (2) Our school has several sports teams and sports-related extra-curricular activities which encourage our students to do more sports; (3) There are P.E. report cards for students to record their fitness levels; (4) Attendance at the annual athletic meet is compulsory for all students; (5) Inter-class activities like indoor rowing competitions and ball games are organised to strengthen students physically.

School's Major Concerns:

School Management Organisation:
The School Management Committee is responsible for formulating main policies of the school and promoting education in the school in accordance to the vision and mission of the school. The School Administration Committee is responsible for school planning and evaluation. Teachers are consulted before main plans are implemented.

The Incorporated Management Committee consists of 7 managers from the school sponsoring body, the Principal (as ex-officio member), a teacher manager, a parent manager, an alumni manager and an independent manager.

Learning and Teaching Plan

Whole-school Language Policy:
Our school places much emphasis on providing a language-rich environment for the students so as to enhance their biliterate and trilingual proficiency:
(1) Language subjects cover the highest of 38% learning time;
(2) English is the medium of instruction in F.1-F.3 Mathematics and F.1-F.2 Science and F.3 Science(Physics, Chemistry, Biology) by some classes;
(3) Extended Learning Activities in English are organized in Junior-form Mathematics, Science, Humanities and Technology subjects;
(4) A writing-across-the-curriculum programme is implemented in collaboration of English, Science and Life & Society Panels;
(5) English is the medium of instruction in various NSS subjects;
(6) Subjects using English as the medium of instruction including Science, Physics, Chemistry and Biology in junior forms; and Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Business, Accounting and Financial Studies in senior forms are open for application;
(7) In view of broadening the students’ horizons and enriching their experiences, the school encourages students to take part in various activities and competitions including English debating competitions, writing competitions and Speech Festival.

Learning and Teaching Strategies:
(1) Motivate students to learn by means of questioning, group interaction, experiments and use of IT;
(2) The whole campus is installed with high-speed fiber optic network which supports all teachers and students to access the WiFi network simultaneously;
(3) Install "Wall-less Classroom" and promote "Flipped classroom": More than 15 000 videos of recorded lessons have been prepared and put onto the school's online learning platform on which students watch the video at home before the lessons. Teachers may focus on answering student questions and exploring topics in greater depth;
(4) Adopt "Moodle" as a personalized online learning platform to foster interaction, inquiry and collaboration;
(5) Promote collaborative lesson preparation and peer lesson observation among teachers as well as professional development;
(6) Independent learning and generic skills are promoted through Project Learning Scheme, Reading Scheme and cross-subject curriculum;
(7) To cater for the needs of students with better learning abilities through the implementation of the three-tiered framework of gifted education, including the school-based whole class teaching, the school-based pull-out training programmes and the off-school supports and competitions.

School-based curriculum:
1. Electives: 3X. Flexible combination of elective subjects: Senior form students can take one subject among 6 electives, and choose another subject among other 5 electives; in addition, students of individual class can either take Biology or Mathematics Extended Part - Module 1 as the third electives.
2. Curriculum highlights:
(a) A variety of subjects are offered to senior forms to enhance the students' multifarious development;
(b) Emphasis is put on alignment of junior and senior curriculum;
(c) To prepare our students for Liberal Studies in NSS, generic skills are developed in F.1-F.2 Life and Society and Project Learning;
(d) F.1-F.2 Technology and Living curriculum includes Technology and Living, Information & Communication Technology serves as a foundation for the related subjects in senior forms;
(e) Life education is implemented at F.1-F.3 to foster students' positive values and attitudes towards life;
(f) Religious and Social Training is provided in F.1-F.6 to nurture moral and social development of our students.

Development of the Four Key Tasks:
(1) Civic Education, Religious and Moral Education: With a determination to carry on the contribution of the Catholic Church to education, we uphold and pass on the "5 core values of catholic education" to young people through assemblies, form teacher periods, Religion and Ethics lessons, Religious and Social Training, Life Education lessons, prayer and mass, so as to prepare them properly for their life and future responsibilities;
(2) Project Learning: Project learning is implemented at junior secondary level to help promote self-directed learning and self-reflection among students;
(3) Morning Reading: Morning reading sessions are held every Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays to develop students' reading habit;
(4) Information Technology: Every classroom is equipped with projector, computer and WIFI to facilitate effective teaching and learning.

Life Planning Education:
Our Career & Guidance department aims at:
(1) Enabling students to understand their own aspirations and develop positive attitudes towards work and learning: (a) School-based teaching materials and life planning education curriculum are offered to students, (b) Career day and Life-wide learning day are organized for students;
(2) Exploring different Career and Higher Education Opportunities.
(3) Preparing students to make informed choices: (a) Parents nights/talks are organized to disseminate updated further education and career information to students, parents & teachers, (b) Individual and group counselling are given to students on personal plans and career goals, (c) Workplace visits are held for students.

Student Support

Whole School Approach to Catering for Learner Diversity:
(1) Our school has set up the Gifted Education Team. We offer enhancement courses for our top students to develop their potentials, achieving excellent results in the public examination.
(2) We encourage our students to participate in programmes for the gifted and talented organized by the University of Hong Kong, the Chinese University of Hong Kong and the Hong Kong Academy for Gifted Education by using the Diversity Learning Grant. Over twenty students are admitted to the courses every year after screening tests.
(3) We offer various training for students who excel at sports, debating or in other areas and they are encouraged to participate in different competitions by using the Diversity Learning Grant and donations from alumni. The English Debate Team had won various awards in the Hong Kong Secondary Schools Debating Competition (both senior and junior sections) for several years.
(4) Our school has set up a Student Support Team and we employ full-time guidance and supporting teachers to provide extra help to students who need special assistance.
(5) Tailor-made curricula are introduced in some F.1 and F.2 classes in Chinese, English and Mathematics. After-school remedial classes are provided to help students having difficulties in doing their homework.

Home-School Co-operation and School Ethos

Home-School Co-operation:
(1) The PTA organizes picnic, workshops on parenting, and a lunch gathering for teachers and parents on the Teachers' Day. Besides, the PTA arranges numerous parent volunteers to help on F.1 registration days;
(2) There are two parents' days per year when parents talk to class teachers individually;
(3) A 2-way communication channel between the school and parents is efficiently set up through newsletter, school webpage, parent app, parent days, parent nights and direct contact;
(4) Our school will hold a number of seminars or workshops for parents, including a seminar on selection of subjects and further studies for parents of F.3 students, a seminar for parents of F.6 graduates, a thankfulness night and Form 1 to Form 3 parents' nights;
(5) Details of school assignments are regularly uploaded to the school website. It helps parents know the progress of their children's learning.

Teacher Professional Training and Development:
Our school stresses on the professional development of teachers and encourages teachers to pursue further study, attend seminars / workshops and participate the Open Classroom organized by the Hong Kong Association of Heads of Secondary Schools to share and learn the pedagogy with other schools’ teachers. Besides organizing 4 workshops per year, we also arrange professional collaboration in lesson planning, peer lesson observations and peer sharing of teaching experiences. Moreover, there is a Teacher Induction Scheme to support beginning teachers. Our teachers attend professional development courses constantly.

Life-wide Learning (including Five Essential Learning Experiences to be provided through Key Learning Areas, extra-curricular activities, co-curricular activities, etc.):
Our Student Association, with 4 houses, school teams, uniform groups and nearly 20 clubs and societies provide numerous activities for our students to serve the community in which they can realize their potentials and thus learning to be good citizens. Professional instructors and coaches are recruited to teach in the classes of athletics, football, basketball, table tennis, badminton, lacrosse, musical instruments, martial art, magic, dance, photography, Chinese chess, Junior Red Cross and the Hong Kong Air Cadet Corps. Students have outstanding performance in indoor rowing, athletics, football, basketball, badminton and martial art, showing their team spirits in various aspects.
