Learning and Teaching Plan

Whole-school Language Policy:
The school adopts English as the medium of instruction except for Chinese Language, Chinese History and Putonghua at all levels.

Learning and Teaching Strategies:
Teachers are allocated work and duties based on their specialization and strengths so that they can fully utilize what they are best at. They are encouraged to set students good examples of life-long learning by attending seminars and courses themselves and pursuing professional betterment. Our school aims to cultivate a positive and ambitious attitude in our students by providing them with various learning programmes.

School-based curriculum:
1. Electives: 2X and 3X. Our school provides HKDSE Visual Arts and other languages like Japanese and French for interested students to take.
2. Curriculum highlights: The school implements in Forms One and Two a school-based subject, Service Learning & Civic Education. This caters to the need for early acquisition of civic education and developing caring character of our students.

Development of the Four Key Tasks:
1. Reading to Learn: To promote a reading culture, English and Chinese Language Departments and the Library run Reading Award Schemes and with facilitating measures, the school allocates fifteen minutes per morning to Reading To Learn Period.
2. Information Technology for Interactive Learning: Computer Literacy and Information & Communication Technology courses are offered in S.1 – S.6 while in many subjects, IT elements are integrated into learning and teaching activities to develop students’ IT capabilities; the e-learning platform is enhanced for interactive learning inside and outside the classrooms.
3. Project Learning: For senior forms, project learning is implemented in Values Education.
4. Moral and Civic Education: A whole-school Pastoral Care Programme is run to cover moral and civic education, life education and anti-drug education in class teacher lessons during assembly time and outside school hours.

Life Planning Education:
With a great emphasis on individual counselling, at least two one-to-one counselling meetings have been arranged for all S.6 students to discuss their future plan with teachers. This allows teachers to offer individualized advice and guidance to students to cater for their diverse needs. A series of school-based talks such as S.4 Subjects Selection Seminar, S.6 Interview Workshop and Personal Statement Writing Workshop are also organized to address students’ needs at different learning stages.

Student Support

Whole School Approach to Catering for Learner Diversity:
The class screening system, together with small class teaching, enhancement courses for elite students, remedial classes for the needy and other strategies are employed to cater for student diversity. In S.4 English Language, 5 classes of students will be divided into 6 groups according their ability.

Whole School Approach to Integrated Education:
Members of the SEN Team include the Vice-principal, Counselling Mistress, SEN Coordinator and our school social workers. The Team encourages class teachers, subject panel chairpersons and subject teachers to provide support to students with SEN. We also invite parents, educational psychologists and speech therapist to attend case study meetings to discuss the support and follow-up measures.

Class teachers keep good contact with parents and Parents’ Days are regularly held. There are regular programmes, including Parents Day cum Spring Gathering Dinner, Picnics and Parents’ Talks and Student Welfare Funds and PTA Scholarships, etc. Our parents have given very good support to the school.
